KARACHI: Hamdan’s mother thought she would finally give him the clothes she clutches on the day his remand was due to end. When he was eventually produced in CTD custody, his mother felt a strange relief. Jail, at least, meant he was alive. In January, the PPP allowed Sindh police to assault dozens of Baloch women in Lyari, including me. In March, it allowed Sindh police to beat and arrest female activists, civil society members and journalists, including me. In November, it allowed Sindh police to illegally detain me for doing my job. If the PPP doesn’t want police violence on women recorded, it should stop using women’s bodies as targets in Sindh and Balochistan.
