In the 1970s detective series “Cannon”, William Conrad’s character, private investigator Frank Cannon, lived at the Sunset Tower on Sunset Strip. The building’s distinctive Art Deco exterior was frequently used for establishing shots of Cannon’s apartment throughout the series. At the time, Sunset Tower was primarily an apartment building—not yet the luxury hotel it is today. This made Frank Cannon one of the coolest fictional residents in the building’s long history!

Whoever shot this 17 minute video showing a drive through Pacific Palisades one month ago had no idea how historic it would become. If you’re not from Los Angeles, this might give you a better idea of what we’ve lost. Please keep in mind this is just ONE street. This doesn’t include the entire Pacific Coast Highway, most of Altadena, and an additional 18 miles of Pacific Palisades. 💔💔💔

This is what the Oscars looked like in 1979 when Johnny Carson was hosting. This was also the first time an Oscar producer ever won an Emmy for producing the Academy Awards. Jack Haley Jr. certainly deserved it. This was also the year of Meryl Streep’s first nomination.

Astonishing colorized footage of Sunset Blvd in 1952. Starting out at La Brea, we see Tiny Naylors on the N.W. corner. We pass a Ralph’s, a Safeway, & several spirit stores & gas stations. On the Oriental Theatre marquee we see SINGING IN THE RAIN has just hit theaters. We end at Stanley Blvd & Sunset. You can see the Samuel French Bookshop on the corner. It was there 70 years until it closed in 2019.

In honor of William Friedkin… In 1973, THE EXORCIST had the longest running engagement at the Mann National Theater in Westwood. This historic footage shows audience members reacting to the film. The subject matter truly rattled people to their core. What an astonishing accomplishment for a director.
