Democratic NJ Governor Mikie Sherrill is a military veteran. I asked her about Secretary Hegseth’s plan for testosterone testing for troops. “He’s failing at that job tremendously in every single way… [and] made us less safe,” she argues. “At this point he needs to be impeached”

“Beyond dystopian.” Novelist Dave Eggers is sounding the alarm about AI, which he argues is harming children’s education: “You have a ten-year-old who is unprecedented in the history of the world. There's never been anyone like that person… To think about that one-of-a-kind-in-the-history-of-humanity person shopping their vision out to a machine, how tragic that is. That's beyond dystopian. It cannot be allowed. Not even one ounce of AI can be allowed in the humanities and youth education.”

Earlier live on air, I spoke about what a day of real joy this is, for Israeli families whose loved ones are finally being returned from two years of horrific Hamas captivity, and for civilians in Gaza, who have finally had a reprieve from two years of brutal, deadly war. I noted that for the hostages who are finally home, it will take a long time for them to recover mentally and physically. But I regret also saying that they may have been treated better than many Gazans because Hamas used these hostages as pawns and bargaining chips. It was insensitive and wrong. From speaking to many former hostages and their families, like everyone I've been horrified at what Hamas has subjected them to over two long years. They've told me their stories of barely being able to breathe in the tunnels, not being allowed to cry, being starved and made to dig their own graves – and of course today, some of the hostages are coming back in body bags.

During the Obama administration, “the president wisely made the choice not to agree to Prime Minister Netanyahu's request to be able to go in and bomb and to even join in the bombing,” his former top diplomat John Kerry tells me. “Obama said, ‘No, we're going to try diplomacy.’”

“This is going to get worse, folks, before it gets better.” In the midst of a record-breaking heatwave in Europe, “it appears as if the [Trump] administration is willing to ignore science, ignore the facts on the ground,” says former US Secretary of State John Kerry.

Just as her tennis career was taking off, Martina Navratilova Navratilova took the extraordinary decision to defect to the US from Czechoslovakia. “It was a one-way ticket, and that was the hard part,” she tells me. “I never knew if I would ever go back.”

Benjamin Netanyahu "needs a war" to stay in power, argues Ami Ayalon, former director of Israeli intelligence service Shin Bet. He tells me why he thinks the Israeli prime minister may be "sacrificing the future of Israel" in his pursuit of eternal war.

"I support Israel and we must continue to support Israel. But there was a slaughter of the Palestinian people in Gaza." On America's relationship with Israel Wendy R. Sherman tells me, "things have changed, I spend a lot of time with younger people. I try to listen and learn as my parents did with me during the Vietnam war... Israel must be safe and secure and have peace forever. And the Palestinians have to be able to have dignity and a place they can call their own as well."

"This administration continues to send mixed signals. They wish Europe to do more, spend more, be more independent, be more reliable, be more consistent... but when there's evidence, as there is now that Europe is moving to... greater defense spending... there's a real concern that Europe might actually be strong enough to make decisions that are separate or different from the US." Leslie Vinjamuri believes "Europe has to bide its time, spend more, build more, keep America in but play that long term game also... to be truly independent."
