2001. Two boys. One Syrian Alawite, one Lebanese Sunni. Best friends before they even understood why those labels were supposed to divide them. They taught each other how to fight, defended each other through racism and through the billion dollar Islamophobia industry that followed after the Twin Towers fell, ate at each other’s homes and prayed side by side. They would die for each other. They shared one dream: to free Palestine one day. They’d sit together watching the resistance in South Lebanon on YouTube, dreaming of one day standing for the same cause. Then came 2011, and Syria began to burn. The Lebanese boy started attending a particular mosque. Slowly, new voices convinced him that going to Syria to fight was jihad.. that paradise waited at the end of that road. Sadly he eventually went. He called his Alawite friend from Syria, speaking about Jannah. His friend begged him: You’ve got this wrong. Leave them. Drop everything and come home. Days later, he was dead. Not freeing Palestine. Not fighting the occupation they once dreamed of confronting together. He was killed when ISIS and al-Nusra turned their guns against each other instead.. Both sides were controlled by the same satanic entity.. That is the cruelty of Zionist infiltration into mosques and extremism: sometimes they takes your friend long before they take his life. More than twenty years later, I still remember him. He was my best friend 💔🤲🏼..
