This morning’s grandstanding at Quantico only solidified what we already know: Pete Hegseth continues to disparage and lie about women in the military. He claimed the military needs to “return to the male standard” in combat jobs (of 1990!), but here’s the truth: there has never been a separate male and female standard. When women entered combat roles, one standard was set, and we’ve been meeting it ever since. You can either do the job or you can’t. Period. Thanks to Wolf Blitzer and CNN for having me on this morning.

It’s fine to set standards however you want. That’s not the issue. What’s false is Hegseth’s continued narrative that combat standards were somehow lowered for women. They were not. And for the SecDef to lie about that is a slap in the face to all women who have served in combat roles. Thanks to @TheWeekendMSNBC for having me on this morning.

It’s been 33 years since the U.S. last conducted a nuclear test. That decision made the world safer. Now, Trump is moving to restart nuclear weapons testing. There’s no reason for this. It’s reckless, unnecessary, and dangerously irresponsible. Where is Congress? This is a big deal.

The Pentagon gave reporters an ultimatum: sign new restrictive press rules by Tuesday or lose access by Wednesday. Every major news outlet has rejected the demand. Kudos to these journalists for not allowing the government to silence them. A free press keeps power in check and the moment we let the government decide who gets to ask questions, we all lose our voice.

Watching Donald Trump call a woman reporter “piggy” and then berate another for simply doing her job is absolutely unacceptable behavior. Thousands of women have served in combat, with honor and distinction, and at levels that Pete Hegseth himself has not reached. Having personally served for twenty-four years, in combat for three separate tours, I take great offense at his indefensible position. It’s shameful to suggest that women can not do jobs that we’ve already done. #womenincombat

Stephen Miller says the president has “plenary authority.” What they really believe is that the president can use the military, including the National Guard, to police our own cities. That’s not just wrong, it’s dangerous. The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 was created to stop exactly that — it prevents the president from using the military as a domestic police force. Deploying our troops this way drains time and resources, costs taxpayers money, and takes service members away from their families and civilian jobs. Our troops have better things to do than stand around and pick up trash. Using them as a political weapon and targeting our cities for political gain, is unacceptable.
