A senior staff from MaldivianAero told me that the losses incurred due to A330 operations are significant. Aircraft utilization is around 30% and the China charter operation has not been successful. It is forecast that by the end of 2025, the losses will reach Rf 250 million. While the first A330 has not been able to operate profitably, the company is still moving forward with plans to bring in a second A330. Muizzu previously stated that operations of the second A330 would begin in October 2025,however, this did not happen and it is now expected that the second A330 will arrive in mid-2026. Muizzu has also promised to bring in three A330 aircraft in total. However, MaldivianAero entire management is against this move, as the company does not have the capacity to operate wide-body aircraft. Despite this, Mohamed Ameen wants to fulfill Dr Mohamed Muizzu pledge to bring in the A330s. The losses are not only borne by the company but also by the public, since MaldivianAero is a state-owned enterprise. There are concerns that someone may be receiving commissions related to the A330 aircraft, given that the leasing cost is USD 350,000 per month per aircraft.
