Even as a Reynolds stan I cannot deny that I’d love for him to occasionally drop the shtick and get back to more serious roles showing his full range. Dude definitely has it!!

Cannot think of a better scene that fully captures a fathers quiet rage and revenge towards the man who took his son from him. Everything about this works the direction, cinematography, the violence and the score.

GLADIATOR UNDERGROUND is one of the best tournament movies of the past few years mainly because it allows Andy and Brian Le a larger stage to fully show off their martial arts skills and inventive choreography! Oh yeah Brian Le has a little movie coming out soon….be ready!

Flashpoint shows some of the most underrated elements of Donnie Yen’s action direction which is the rhythm and timing of his choreography and that he knows exactly when to slow things down and build to a furious violent crescendo.

MILLIONAIRES EXPRESS is an amazing example of a classic Sammo Hung third act finale. Literally everyone gets a chance to shine. The choreography, camera movement, performances and editing complement each other to help create cinematic magic!!

BLACK BELT is a beautifully moving film that focuses more on the philosophy and skills of karate over more stylized action. The hard hitting choreography expertly expresses character motivations, skills and tells a deeply compelling story.

Eastern Condors is Sammo at his most ruthless and the finale is a series of fast paced hard hitting fights with Yuen Biao once again effortlessly stealing the movie. An absolute action classic filled with full contact hits, bloody violence and some gnarly stunts!

Few action stars sell their desperation in the action and then the impact of the violence they inflicted like Iko. The Raid 2 stows this perfectly in this fight scene from his rapid arm beaks and movement to the look on his face after…chilling. Storytelling through action!

YES MADAM is further proof that few action directors hook up their actors like Corey Yuen! The finale is an absolute all-timer punctuated by hard hitting stunts and brilliant choreography!

The finale of Dragons Forever is an absolute action masterpiece. Sammo gives everyone a chance to shine while delivering mind blowing choreography, perfect editing, back breaking stunts and so many white socks!

There is such a unique timing and flow to Sammo Hung’s choreography from the blocking and trapping to the crescendo and impact of the final blows and stunts. His action stays with you. The finale of My Lucky Stars is another all timer that I can watch over and over again!

I love Jackie’s action design but there is something special when he’s under Sammo Hung’s direction. There’s a meaner edge to JC along with Sammo’s fast paced blocking and trapping highlighted by impactful kicks and glorious power powder!!

There are few actors that bring the amount of legit martial arts skills and acting ability to sell his characters intensity on screen like Bren Foster. The very definition of speed and power and his fights are absolute jaw droppers! Check out Mexicali and Life After Fighting!

Few choreographers are as inventive and hook their stars up like Corey Yuen. LADY REPORTER while not a total classic does feature Cynthia Rothrock as the lead and she gets plenty of opportunities to prove why she would become the action icon she has! Brutal and hard hitting!

It’s takes guts to remake Bruce Lee’s Fist Of Fury and it gave is one of the martial arts movies of the 90s. Woo-ping showcases Li’s grace and power while giving him a meaner streak. A true action classic!

Sensitive content

SPL gave us one of the best weapons fights of the last 20 years. Seeing Donnie Yen and Wu Jing at the top of their game fully unleashed was and is a thing of beauty elevated by blistering choreography and impactful editing. A modern day masterpiece!

I can’t get enough of Jackie when directed by Sammo. There’s a meanness not found in JC’s action direction. Sammo’s hard hitching choreography combined with excellent camera movement and perfect editing. Heart Of Dragon’s finale is an absolute all timer.

Royal Warriors is top tier 80s violent gritty Hong Kong action. Filled hard hitting choreography, brutal stunt work and enough breakable glass to make Jackie Chan jealous. Action cinema nirvana!!
