Hillsborough has cast a permanent shadow over our great city. It not only robbed 97 lives. It robbed the lives of the survivors carrying that grief. That they are still fighting so hard to this day is a testament to their resolve and courage. The government must match that courage. It must be bold enough to lay the Hillsborough Law. - a statutory duty of candour - ⁠criminal penalties for those who hide the truth - ⁠legal aid for bereaved families at inquests - ⁠real accountability so the truth cannot be buried. #JFT97

Yesterday, I put the words of Margaret Aspinall and Charlotte Hennessy on the record for the Government to hear. The families of the 97 are still waiting for the Hillsborough Law. It's welcome that the Bill has been carried over, but it must be delivered in full and at pace.

The Hillsborough Law has finally been laid in Parliament. This must not be another false start. I asked the Deputy PM to promise me it will be THE Hillsborough Law, that it will emerge from Parliament stronger - NOT weaker - and finally deliver Justice for the 97.

🧵This week I led a debate on a dispute in my constituency between Unite the union: join a union and UNISON - UK's largest union workers and Livv Housing—the largest housing association in Knowsley. Instead of meaningfully engaging with unions, Livv is attacking collective bargaining, offering pay rise only those NOT in a trade union. This has to stop. That’s why I called on the Government to amend the Employment Rights Bill to close what appears to be a loophole.
