Francisco Lindor just saved the game for the Mets with one of the best plays we've seen from him in a while. And he was fired up. So was Jefry Yan.

Excellent catch by A.J. Ewing to rob Christian Walker of extra bases. One of the best of Ewing's rookie season.

Carson Benge with another three-hit night. He has four multi-hit games in his last five tries and 11 total hits over that stretch. Since April 23, Benge is batting .305 over a stretch of 105 games.

Francisco Lindor has an error in three consecutive games. He nearly had another one earlier today. Lindor has five errors in 17 games since returning from the injured list.

Here's another look at that potential double play ball that Francisco Lindor was not in position to turn:

Kodai Senga's first three batters back in the Majors: -Walk -Walk -Three-run homer

In one final appearance for the Mets this afternoon, Brooks Raley retired the side on eight pitches -- seven strikes. He will be elsewhere by tomorrow evening.

Another mistake from Francisco Lindor, whose decision not to charge this ball allowed Teoscar Hernandez to hustle down the line with an infield hit. The Dodgers are now rallying in the eighth.

Mark Vientos is having a tough game at first base. In addition to being unable to corral a Nolan McLean pickoff throw in the first inning, resulting in an unearned run, Vientos was eaten up by this ball in the fifth.

Here's one you don't see every day! Mark Vientos dropped a foul pop-up. Fans booed. One batter later, Mark Vientos caught an almost identical pop. Fans mock cheered. So Vientos took the opportunity to fire them up a little.

Bo Bichette's arm strength on this play: 86.3 mph. That matches his hardest throw from shortstop all of last season.

About a month shy of the trade deadline, Freddy Peralta is getting lit up again. Peralta has allowed five earned runs to the Blue Jays in less than three innings today. His ERA is back up to 4.88, which is fifth-worst among qualified Major League pitchers.

Jacob Young is singlehandedly trying to keep the Mets out of the playoffs.

Kodai Senga just recorded a called third strike on a 67.8 mph, ABS-overturned curveball. The crowd wanted the challenge. Big grin from Senga when it happened.

Here's a look at the full field on that Jo Adell RBI single in the first inning. It appears Jorge Soler was tagged out just before Nolan Schanuel touched home.

Unreal throw by Carson Benge to cut down a run at the plate and save Zach Thornton another earned run. Benge uncorked that one at 94.8 mph.

Mets executives including David Stearns are on hand today to break ground on the team's new 55,000-sq-ft Minor League clubhouse. The previous complex has been here since 1988. "It's going to cement us as the preeminent player development organization in baseball," Stearns said.

Soto grimaced running first-to-third on Bo Bichette's RBI single in the top of the first. You can see him slowing up about halfway between second and third base here.

Credit where it's due: in the ninth inning of a losing game in a lost season, Carson Benge just sprinted an elite 30.2 feet/second in a failed attempt to beat out an infield hit. Not everyone would hustle in that spot. Benge did.

Back by popular demand... the Mets.

Another day, same Mets. Juan Soto and A.J. Ewing just turned this routine George Springer base hit into a Little League home run.

The Mets tested Kodai Senga this afternoon, pitching him on back-to-back days -- as closers do -- for the first time in his career. The result was a walk-off homer.

Francisco Lindor, three-run homer. The Mets, who have a chance to play spoiler against lots of teams down the stretch, are on the verge of a three-game series sweep of the contending Guardians.

Well isn't this a fitting way for the first half to end. Devin Williams just blew his second consecutive save for the Mets, spoiling Zach Thornton's much-deserved first career victory. Francisco Lindor also played a role with a fielding error on a play that could have ended it.

Francisco Lindor just committed his seventh error in 32 games since returning from the injured list on June 24. Among big leaguers at any position, only Trea Turner has more errors over that stretch.

This Mets-Nationals game is BONKERS, and it's only the second inning. James Wood just hit an inside-the-park grand slam off Nick Morabito's glove. Can't say I've ever seen that one before.

Sean Manaea was cruising and had retired six consecutive batters into the sixth inning tonight. The White Sox followed with back-to-back-to-back homers, the last of those tying the game.

Brett Baty, first career grand slam. The Mets might be the hottest team in baseball.

With 2 HR and 6 RBI tonight, Francisco Lindor: -Tied Hall of Famer Carlos Beltrán for the seventh-most homers (149) in franchise history. -Passed Brandon Nimmo and tied Keith Hernandez for the 11th-most RBI (468) in franchise history.

Not to pile on at a difficult time, but this is not what run prevention is supposed to look like.

Kodai Senga looked dominant in the first inning tonight, hitting 99 mph and striking out a pair. In the second inning, Senga walked two batters (including one with the bases loaded), hit another and allowed five runs. He was subsequently booed off the mound.

Nolan McLean didn't throw nearly enough strikes today, and he paid the price when he did come in the zone. McLean: 5 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 8 K. Only 54 of his 94 pitches were strikes. His ERA is 3.51. For McLean, the second half will be about proving he can take a step forward.

Psychopath.

That's now seven home runs for Mets outfielder Tyrone Taylor in his last 46 plate appearances. An unreal run just before the trade deadline.

Shades of Luis Castillo... Bo Bichette just dropped a pop-up as a nightmare inning for the Mets continues.

Extremely aggressive send here with no outs in extra innings, on what would have been the game-tying run. Francisco Lindor got popped in the face pretty good on a play at the plate, with his head perhaps banging the ground as well.

Fifteen days after undergoing right knee surgery, Francisco Alvarez is taking full batting practice on the field. That's... not normal.

Jorge Polanco just snapped an 0-for-26 stretch with a home run. It's his first homer since April 11.
