The only good pig is a dead pig.” Before they were calling for “Death to the IDF”, Bob Vylan were insulting police officers and extolling “dead pigs”. Chasing a Jew through London and shouting “Free Palestine” is an act of brazen antisemitism. This is the true face of Palestine protesters. Some may see a Jewish person and think that, because they are Jewish, they are fair game to harass in the name of “freeing Palestine”. Last night, another Jewish synagogue in London was firebombed, this time in Kenton. This is the third such attack in as many days, and also comes after the recent ambulance arson attack and a supposed drone threat against the Israeli embassy in London this week. This is now becoming a terrifying spate of daily arson attacks on the Jewish community. It betrays a cataclysmic failure of the state – politicians, police chiefs and prosecutors – to tackle antisemitic extremism in this country, which has gone largely unchecked for two and a half years. Britain is fundamentally a different country now. Still the Government refuses to proscribe Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, an obvious first step to address foreign radicalisation and interference. It is shocking if apparent concern for the sensitivities of a violent Iranian regime is more important to the Government than the welfare of Jewish people in this country.

In his resignation speech this morning, Sir Keir Starmer said: “Six years ago I inherited a party that was...morally bankrupt.” He elaborated, declaring: “We changed our Party, ripping out the poison of antisemitism.” The reality is that Sir Keir’s record on antisemitism is a very mixed bag. He sat in the antisemite Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet for years and backed him to become Prime Minister. Only later, following electoral defeat and then the EHRC report, which followed our referral, did he decide that the Party had become “morally bankrupt” and needed antisemitism torn out “by its roots”. To his credit, he then did change the Party in relation to antisemitism from what it was under Mr Corbyn, who, to underscore the scale of the change, is no longer even a member. Still, the Party has more to do – year on year in our polling of British Jews it is viewed as more tolerant of antisemitism among its officeholders than any other. The remedial job is not over. But Sir Keir deserves gratitude for starting that process. Addressing antisemitism in a political party is one thing. Confronting it in society is another, and far more urgent. On that score, Sir Keir, like his predecessor, has been a failure. Antisemitism in Britain has surged to levels unknown in living memory. That has taken place under the watch of this Government and the last one, across two parties, with no end in sight. Not only has far too little been done, even after repeated promises, but Sir Keir’s Government has even taken measures that have made matters worse, with some foreign policy declarations pouring fuel on the fire. As the country looks forward, addressing this shocking extremism in our society must be a top priority for Sir Keir’s successor. CAA will be there every step of the way, to support the right policies and call out the failures.

Do you provide this sort of greeting for all of your guests, or only the Jewish ones? You need to investigate this at once and ensure that whoever was responsible is fired.

Several people from the Catholic community have written to us in disgust regarding the high-profile Catholic-interest podcast, Catholic Unscripted, which in the days prior to Passover and Christian Holy Week platformed the disgraced priest, Fr. James Mawdsley. In the episode, he seemed to blame the Jews for what he sees as all of the ills of the Catholic Church. “I think that the Jews have basically infiltrated the Church, destroyed her liturgy, her dogma, her morals.” “The Jews and the Devil are laughing at us.” The list of examples goes on. His Holy Week request? “No genuflection and prayers for the Jews, no matter what anyone else does.” Elsewhere, he has also previously said that “Adolf Hitler did not start World War II. It was the Jews.” His views were not challenged on the podcast, which itself has also courted controversy. Thankfully, there are so many Catholics who cherish their community’s relationship with the Jewish community, including those who have written to us. We are grateful to our Catholic friends and wish you all a happy Easter.

The inverted red triangle and its emoji variant have been used by some anti-Israel activists to signal support for proscribed terrorist organisations such as Hamas, inspired by the appearance of the symbol in Hamas propaganda videos to indicate targets for attack. This could hardly be more serious.” Nick Timothy MP’s comments during this week’s Parliamentary debate echoes the frustration and fear that many British Jews around the country are feeling after recent developments concerning the decision-making behind the Maccabi Tel Aviv ban by West Midlands Police. Is it any wonder that eight in ten British Jews think that the police do not do enough to protect them, according to our representative polling?

“Met Police can go to hell.” Palestine Action and its supporters have sent a clear message: they have nothing but contempt for Metropolitan Police frontline officers. When a group of extremists takes to the streets to defend a soon-to-be proscribed terrorist group and protest against those who risk their lives to keep our streets safe, it is a frighteningly clear indication that something has gone very wrong in this country. The authorities have a lot to answer for. This ban on Palestine Action — as called for by CAA and others — is a good start, but it should have happened a long time ago, as should bans on these kinds of protests. This must be the start of a clampdown on lawlessness and extremism if it is to be of any consequence.

The word you’re looking for is ‘Jews’, not ‘people’. This truly beggars belief. This dire reporting is not only factually incorrect but erases Jews from a genocide in which six million Jewish men, women and children were slaughtered specifically because they were Jews. How is it possible, therefore, that on Holocaust Memorial Day of all days, Good Morning Britain manages to acknowledge several other groups but not Jews? To make matters worse, there is no reference to Jewish people at all for over two minutes into this segment, and when there finally is one, it is only done once and in regard to former history students taking a tour of the Jewish quarter of Kraków. Additionally, there is bafflingly no utterance of the word “antisemitism” whatsoever. If this is intended to pay respect to the victims of Holocaust Memorial Day, it has failed abysmally and ignores the true nature of this horrific event. How on earth was this allowed to happen, ITV? We demand an explanation.

“Is it safe for Jews to ride the Bakerloo line? “Not when I’m driving.” This is revolting and plainly runs counter to the most basic expectations of public transport. Already over two thirds of British Jews do not feel comfortable disclosing their identity on public transport. We have seen confirmation that the driver has been identified and suspended whilst TfL carries out an investigation. We thank TfL for intervening quickly, and expect that, if the interaction in the footage is borne out, his employment will be terminated.

Ash Sarkar tries to ‘correct’ Dr Myriam Francois as she says that Jews are privileged and wealthy. “Individuals” prompts Ms Sarkar? “Group” doubles down Dr Francois. It is part of her argument that Government funds are being unduly spent defending a minority against a secondary racism, using a classic antisemitic trope about Jewish wealth. It might be ironic were it not so darkly dangerous too. She is effectively arguing that because there are some Jewish billionaires in Britain, all Jews are therefore wealthy and privileged and they cannot possibly be as vulnerable or maligned as is being claimed. It is hard to know where the ignorance ends and the prejudice begins. Were Dr Francois to spend any time in Britain’s Jewish community, she would see families struggling with poverty, families that are comfortable, and families that are wealthy – just like any other community. In any event, nobody deserves to be maligned for their ethnic or religious background, regardless of their wealth. According to our analysis of Home Office figures, Jews are more than nine times more likely to be the targets of hate crime than any other religious group – and these figures are not even complete, such that the true scale is likely to be even worse. It is insulting that Dr Francois dismisses the reality that British Jews are living through – to the point that a majority of them no longer see a future in this country – because she found some Jewish names on the rich list. The fact that she was even looking is telling. This is the face of ‘educated’ discourse about Jews in Britain, from an Oxford-educated doctor of philosophy and broadcaster for the BBC, Channel 4, Al Jazeera and the Islam Channel.

We have been made aware that last night on the London Underground, an identifiably Jewish man noticed a fellow passenger staring aggressively at him. The passenger then began blowing the vapour from his e-cigarette in his direction. After a few minutes, the man started recording the passenger, unsure of what may happen. The passenger stood up and sat opposite the man. In the ensuing conversation, the passenger said: “Your religion kills Muslims.” He also proceeded to refer to the man’s skullcap in saying: “You’re wearing the hat.” We believe it is possible that the passenger in question may be a minor, so we have blurred his face. He is described as a Middle Eastern male with a black ponytail between the ages of sixteen to twenty years old. British Transport Police is investigating and we are continuing to support the victim. The incident occurred between Camden Town and Chalk Farm on a Northern Line train to Edgware at approximately 19:45 in carriage number 52585. The protest was reportedly organised by Palestine Pulse – yet another extremist pro-Palestine activist group – to coincide with outgoing Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s final Prime Minister’s Questions. Promotional material for the protest included the slogan “End Zionist control over UK” alongside imagery of Israeli shekels. The suggestion that Israel exerts financial influence over British affairs echoes a familiar antisemitic trope portraying Jews as secretly controlling events behind the scenes. According to our polling, the overwhelming majority of Jews (80%) identify as Zionists; only 6% do not. Treating engagement with Israel in an official capacity as evidence of disloyalty stigmatises Jews, who are proud and patriotic members of British society.

You said ‘It is the bias and moral collapse of the broadcaster that has essentially turned them into spokespeople for Hamas.’ You can’t seriously think that the BBC is a mouthpiece for Hamas?” This was the question that the BBC’s Christian Fraser asked CAA’s Gideon Falter on Friday in his last interview of the day before he signed off for Shabbat. There was just enough time to answer.

This is Jew-hatred without its disguise. This violent assault was captured by a visibly Jewish man who was going about his work. This is the current climate in the UK which has been bred by the inaction and appeasement from the authorities. Jews going about their daily lives are not safe from being subjected to vile assault and violent threats. This incident took place on Monday, 20th April at 16:20 on Elliman Avenue in Slough, SL2 5AZ. Is the BBC trying to sever all ties with their Jewish listeners? “Buildings will be illuminated to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, which commemorates the six million people murdered by the Nazi regime.” Jews. It was six million Jews specifically. Even on Holocaust Memorial Day, the BBC cannot bring itself to properly address antisemitism. It is no wonder that an overwhelming 92% of British Jews rate the BBC’s coverage of matters of Jewish interest as unfavourable. This is absolutely disgraceful broadcasting. BBC, we demand an explanation for how this could have happened.
