Had the chance to speak with Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla and watch him train with the great Eric Nicksick. Really fascinating to hear how much MMA has influenced the way he coaches. He’s clearly put in the work himself. Far more than just a fan of the sport. Hard to admit as a Knicks fan, but props where they're due.

Paulo Costa reveals the UFC contacted him yesterday about replacing Khalil Rountree Jr. against Magomed Ankalaev after Rountree's withdrawal for UFC Abu Dhabi: "It's less than 14 days to get a flight to Abu Dhabi. It's a 16-hour flight, five rounds, for the same money, and not even for an interim belt. I don't think that makes sense right now."

"There was something wrong with [McGregor] before he got in that cage tonight. When he was in there, it was like nothing I'd ever seen him do. He was looking out into the crowd. He didn't really lock eyes with Max. That looked like a guy who was disassociated with the moment for me." - Peter Carroll

Robert Whittaker didn't appreciate the UFC broadcast team's comments about his physique at light heavyweight: "Are we gonna talk about the elephant in the room? The commentary calling me fat and talking about my weight? Did I look that out of shape? I had abs the day before. I just had some salt bloat going on."

"I've gone into fights with LCL and MCL tears, and, brother, I'm not throwing a jumping switch kick if I've got one—unless he knew and needed a way to get out. He may have trained that kick a million times throughout camp, but with the nerves and the adrenaline, maybe he jumped a little too far. Maybe he jumped a little too high. There are just so many what-ifs. I feel for the guy. Everything that could go wrong did. I hope he comes out the other side better for it somehow." Robert Whittaker on speculation that Conor McGregor was injured coming into UFC 329.

Robert Whittaker says the power difference between light heavyweight and middleweight wasn't what he expected: "I trained extensively for months with the impression that I was going to fight a boogeyman and that every touch of his gloves would send me to sleep. Any time I jumped into sparring or started moving around, if I zigged instead of zagged and took a shot, it almost felt like a failed session. I wasn't happy with it. I wanted to respect the power. But once I got in there and took some shots, they felt like anybody else's. I've been rocked at middleweight, too, so middleweights hit just as hard."

Johnny Fisher responds to rumors that Zuffa Boxing offered him 6.5 times more than Matchroom: "That is an accurate number, without going into the actual nitty-gritty of numbers, that was what they were offering me. I'm actually being offered double or triple what I would have been offered to fight someone for a British title under Eddie. It's an amazing deal."

Scott D'Amore reveals Triple H was one of the first people to reach out following his departure from TNA: "The first time I looked at my phone after it went public, my screen was full of messages. One of them was from Triple H, and it was just, 'Are you okay?' I think that was a classy move."

Jon Anik breaks down the demanding preparation required for every UFC event: "My room service bills are insane, bro. This trip, I've eaten every single meal in my hotel room. The nature of cramming is viewed negatively in broadcasting circles, but the nature of this job is that so much of what the athletes are saying and doing happens during fight week. There's so much going on that if the fight card got delayed five hours, I'd still be prepping."

Josh Hokit responds to the backlash surrounding his comments about Michelle Obama at the White House: "I thought I was giving her a compliment. I don't think anyone viewed it as Michelle Obama being a man. It's more like she knows how to deal with adversity, she knows how to work hard like a man when the times get tough. It was a perfect opportunity to show the world how great this country is with freedom of speech... In other parts of the world, you say something like that and you die. That's one thing about my career... You'll never hear me backtrack from what I say."

John Kavanagh says he was fully convinced Conor McGregor would make a return when he literally moved into the gym: "I had a storage room, and he asked if he could put a bed in it. [This was around] Christmas. A couple of nights of the week, he was sleeping there, especially on sparring days. We're trying to make sure we did everything right for the last six months... There was a certain mindset that comes with that... I just thought it was a bit of a Rocky III moment: go back, get the eye of the tiger."

Alex Pereira believes Ciryl Gane was on the verge of gassing out if the fight kept going: "People say that I got tired. No, I did not. If I had the chance to survive without the illegal strikes, I feel that Ciryl would not have survived in the fight because he doesn't have heart. You could see it in his eyes, and I got robbed of that moment. It looks like he was lying down because he was celebrating. No, he was that tired."

Josh Hokit offers an interesting theory on what went wrong for Ilia Topuria: "Topuria makes the mistake of... he beats up his teammates, and so now the teammates fear him, where now he's not getting a certain look. That's the downfall of Topuria. If you're always hitting people in the liver, you're always dropping your teammates, the teammates are kind of shelled up. They're scared to hit you because, rightfully so, no one wants to be dropped in practice. You want a healthy balance in practice where the guy is still trying to test you, so you have to practice your defense. I think that's why his distance and timing were off, because of that."

"[Conor] is angry about Max saying he was gonna drag him into deep waters. That offended Conor McGregor. Conor said, 'I'm not saying I won't get tired. I'm human. We get tired. You think you can push me to a limit where I'll quit?' It upset him." Chael Sonnen on Conor McGregor's mentality heading into UFC 329.

Chael Sonnen was surprised by the advice Conor McGregor offered Dustin Poirier amid his recent personal challenges: "Conor said, 'If I were to tell him something, I would tell him to take this deadly serious... The world is showing you something. Listen to it.' I thought it was powerful."

It's pretty remarkable that an NBA head coach is going out of his way to find MMA gyms to train at while on the road during the season: "I think it just keeps you fresh, mentally and physically, so that when I'm helping the team, I have a little bit of that fighter mentality. It just helps grow a little bit of an edge, and every little bit helps." - Joe Mazzula

"[Alex Pereira's] dad was crying, his family was sad, and he said, 'Hey, we've made other families feel like this. It's our turn.' I was like, 'That dude is a legend,' just for having that perspective so quickly after a fight and carrying that mentality... A lot of respect for that." Sean O'Malley praises Alex Pereira for his perspective following his loss to Ciryl Gane.
