The newly appointed V D Satheesan Government in Kerala denied permission to recite the full version of Vande Mataram during the first Assembly session held today. By cutting short the National Song, the Government has also violated the recent guidelines issued by the Union Home Ministry regarding the proper recitation of Vande Mataram. Congress has once again shown that it is willing to compromise on national sentiments for political or minority appeasement. Vande Mataram is not merely a song; it is an emotion that awakened patriotism and sacrifice in millions of Indians during the struggle for independence. It reveres Bharat Mata as the embodiment of Sri Durga and Sri Saraswati, symbolising strength, wisdom, and devotion to the motherland. A Government run by elected representatives, who take oath to uphold the Constitution of India and its national values, has no moral right to disregard such guidelines and undermine the sentiments attached to Vande Mataram. Any attempt to dilute or selectively curtail it for political appeasement is unfortunate and unacceptable. It is deeply disappointing that a party which once led the freedom movement is now ignoring the very spirit that inspired generations of patriots.
