An 18-year-old was accused of pointing a gun at an officer and faced an attempted murder charge. But body camera footage reportedly showed him cooperating and had his hands raised the entire time! Prosecutors dropped the charges. Imagine if that footage didn’t exist. The proper use of body cameras should be NON-NEGOTIABLE.

Cassandra Barksdale was told she had aggressive cancer. She told her kids she had five years to live. She had a full hysterectomy. Then she found out the tissue sample wasn't even hers. That is a catastrophic failure. She lost her uterus, her peace of mind, and months of her life to a preventable mistake. That is not acceptable!

Brionna Johnson was told she would have to end her pregnancy and undergo a hysterectomy. Instead, a 27-pound fibroid was removed while preserving her pregnancy and her ability to have children. Too often, Black women face limited options or are not heard. This outcome shows what is possible when patients are listened to and given real care. Equity in maternal care is not a luxury, it is a necessity.

67-year-old security guard Kenneth Williams Sr. went to work Friday night and never came home after nine officers reportedly opened fire. A witness estimated roughly 100 shots rang out, and at least 100 evidence markers were seen at the scene. His grieving family deserves to know exactly what led to his death!

Two Black boys running a lemonade stand received an unexpected show of support after someone called 911 on them. Instead of shutting them down, Kansas City police officers and firefighters showed up to support them, helping them earn hundreds of dollars. This is what community should look like! Investing in our youth instead off discouraging their entrepreneurship. ✊🏿

ICE arrested Arlit Martinez two days before her 15-year-old son died from cancer. The Maryland mother of four was headed to work when she was detained. Despite urgent pleas from her family, lawyers, and doctors, she was not released to say goodbye. She is reportedly still in federal custody. Her husband is now left to grieve and bury their son alone. This is beyond cruelty.

A historic Black cemetery in Palmetto, Florida, was vandalized, with graves damaged and “Trump” and “DeSantis” spray-painted across tombstones. Our ancestors deserve dignity in life and in death. Desecrating sacred burial grounds is hateful, painful, and unacceptable. We must protect Black history and honor the families impacted by this cruelty.

Tyron McAlpin, the deaf Black man with cerebral palsy who was falsely accused of assault by Phoenix police, says he tried to point to his ears to tell officers he couldn’t hear them before he was punched 10+ times and tased 4x. This brutality remains unconscionable!

Rachel Hampton lost more than 53 pounds but her stomach would not go down. Then she fainted. An MRI revealed she had 23 fibroids so severe there was almost no uterine tissue left. She was told she would likely need a hysterectomy. She got a second opinion and fought for her uterus. Surgeons removed 21 fibroids and her uterus was preserved. Black women are more likely to develop fibroids at younger ages and experience more severe symptoms than other groups. If something feels wrong, please go get checked. The earlier you know the more options you have.

An Oakland County probate judge who was recorded calling Black Americans “lazy pieces of s***” and declaring “I’m a new racist” has retired, after a WXYZ investigation and 15 months on paid leave. She reportedly even bragged about being “untouchable” and claimed other judges would back her up.

A 1-year-old child is dead after police officers in Mississippi opened fire on a vehicle in a crowded Walmart parking lot in Senatobia. His mother, who has not been charged with any crime, says she was trying to communicate to officers that there was a baby in the car. They fired anyway, leading to the death of an innocent 1-year-old. We intend to seek justice for baby Kohen and the life that was stolen from him.

The Thomas family is calling for the bodycam footage to be released. Jesse and his family deserve answers, transparency, and a full investigation into this use of force.
