Putin is waging war against mothers and their children. The Russian army cannot win on the battlefield. The Russians are not strong, they are cruel. That is why they launch daily attacks on the civilian population, trying to break Ukrainians' resistance. You can see a woman shielding a small child with her own body, trying to save the child's life. An aerial bomb struck near a public transit stop in Sumy. Yesterday, at least five people were killed, including a child, and another 30 were injured. Hospitals and schools, residential buildings and supermarkets, train stations, and other crowded places have long been targets for the Russians. It is important to understand: the Russians continue manufacturing missiles and shells, and recruiting contract soldiers, because they still have the money to do so. By official figures alone, 40 percent of the Russian budget goes toward the war. What needs to be done? Stop doing business with Russia and paying taxes into its budget. Refuse to buy Russian goods. Seize Russian ships transporting oil and gas in circumvention of sanctions. Hold foreign companies accountable for helping Russia evade sanctions. Strike at the Russian economy's ability to finance this bloody war.

The war has taught me a simple truth. Thousands of things that people consider important in their lives are, in fact, of no value whatsoever. And there are literally just a few things worth living and fighting for. The Russians have once again killed families with children who were sleeping in their beds this night. They were killed because we do not have the missiles to protect the skies over Ukrainian cities. Against this backdrop, the fact that in the US the military are rolling out the red carpet for Putin – who has an arrest warrant issued by the Hague and is the world’s biggest child abductor – Or the fact that Poland has decided to scrap Soviet aircraft for scrap metal rather than hand them over to Ukraine for free. Or other news of this sort no longer stirs our emotions. They simply become yet another feature of these despicable times. The Ukrainian authorities have appealed for missiles to be urgently supplied from the stockpiles of various countries to defend against Russian attacks. Those of us who survived this night in Kyiv, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa and Kherson – we are all watching closely to see who will merely pay lip service to our resilience, and who will actually do something. Three years ago, on these same days, I and part of my team were in Kyiv. We refused to evacuate to continue our work on the ground. When Bucha was released, we immediately sent mobile groups to work there. And we were shocked. All this hell that we faced in those days is the result of total impunity that Russia has enjoyed for decades — they have never been punished. Russians believe that they can do whatever they want. We must establish a special tribunal to hold Putin and other war criminals accountable.

My heart is with the people in Iran and their fight for freedom. Iranians have come into the streets peacefully, but met with brutal violence. For forty-seven years, the Islamic Republic has prosecuted people with censorship, bullets, detention, and torture. But this night is special. Iranians are in a communications blackout. Internet and phone networks were on the verge of collapse. It is not a technical failure. It is a tactic. I have no technical tools, but let me send brave people in Iran my love from Ukraine. Ukrainians know what it means to fight against an enormous opposing power while the world is just watching. So, let me make this clear publicly. You are not alone this night! We are thinking about you! We are praying for you! Be confident: ordinary people have much more power than they even realize. Ordinary people can do extraordinary things. It is you who create history. To democratic governments, international institutions, and, first and foremost, to freedom-loving people in different countries. We must speak up! I call on you, tonight, to demand an end to live fire against civilians, insist on the protection of hospitals and medical staff, and press for the immediate restoration of communications. In this video from the rubble of a house in Kryvyi Rih, the body of Olena Kulyk (in the photo), mother of three, is being recovered. Later, the bodies of her children were also found. Kyrylo was 10 years old, Demyd was 2 years and 8 months, and the youngest, Ulyana, was only 2 months old. The only survivor from the family was the father, Roman. Can you imagine what Russia has turned his life into?
