Wow, rare footage capturing F-15s practicing their mating calls. I know one is of the Lakenheath type.👀

Demo at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland of a 37mm gun, possibly a Baldwin (Model 1918 Type M1), mounted to a Liberty engine through the hub of the propeller shaft that is offset from the crankshaft. I can't find solid evidence this was produced but interesting nonetheless.👀

Ok, what nut job kept finding different ways to kill people with napalm? I was today years old when I found out we added napalm flame throwers to boats and called them "Zippo's". This is footage of them testing it in '68 and then later being used to burn down Vietnam in '70.👀

The Italian Savoia-Marchetti S.66, designed and built in 1931 by Savoia-Marchetti as an enlarged S.55 with three Fiat engines. It served Ala Littoria on Mediterranean routes before military use with the Regia Aeronautica until 1943. 👀

The Big Boy German WWII Karl-Gerät was a massive self-propelled siege mortar designed and built by Rheinmetall, also known as Mörser Karl after General Karl Heinrich Becker. Seven were produced from 1940-1942, each weighing 124-127 short tons in firing position. The main 600mm version fired a shell of 4,780lb that could punch through over 8 ft of concrete and made a crater up to 15m (49ft) wide and 5m (16ft) deep. They saw action at Brest-Litovsk, Sevastopol, the Warsaw Uprising, and even tried hitting the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen. Each needed a special crane and ammo carriers for transport since it had to be broken down for longer moves.👀 Fun Fact: The first six had the nicknames "Adam" (later "Baldur"), "Eva" (later "Wotan"), "Thor", "Odin", "Loki", and "Ziu".💫

On April 18, 1995, a VF-21 F-14 Tomcat was blown off the USS Independence flight deck by jet blast from another Tomcat set to launch. The JBD was behind Cat 4 but unusable for afterburning F-14s since that catapult wasn't water-cooled—OK for A-6s, A-7s or E-2s though. 👀

In Jan 1991, RAF Tornadoes ripped through Iraqi skies with JP233 pods loaded - 235 bomblets each, raining chaos on airfields like H-3 and Tallil. Cratered every taxiway for miles; 6 Days into war the Iraqi Air Force was neutralized. Test Footage of Tornados releasing JP233.🫡

B-58 Hustler sported a unique flexible tail gun with its 20mm rotary cannon in a springy aluminum cone that adjusted for smooth supersonic flight. The radar-guided system let the DSO fire remotely, marking an early automated defense setup with 1,200 rounds ready.

Impressive sideslip landings by RAF pilots flying Avro 504s — primarily used for steep descents. We’d only just figured out how to take off and land a decade before this.👀

The Battle of Palmdale. In 1956, a runaway Hellcat drone went rogue over California. Two F-89 jets fired 208 unguided rockets-all missed. The errant rockets started fires, damaged homes/cars in Palmdale. No one died. The drone? Crashed harmlessly after running out of fuel.👀

October 1944 footage from the Battle of Leyte Gulf shows Wildcats finding a landing spot after their carrier was bombed, only to discover the hard way that the airstrip wasn't yet operational. (The carriers CVL-23, CVE-73, and CVE-63 were all lost in that battle.)🫡

WWII was hardcore, no doubt. It's not bad enough you're getting shot at or blown to bits—you also had torrential rain, mud everywhere, tornadoes, typhoons in the Pacific... and then a DAMN VOLCANO decides to erupt. 👀 Mount Vesuvius erupted in March 1944 during the Allied occupation of southern Italy, damaging nearly 80-90 B-25 bombers of the USAAF 340th Bombardment Group stationed at Pompeii Airfield. Shots in this footage show paint melting off.

Upscaled and colorized footage from March 26th, 1945 of Aka Island, Okinawa being bombarded by over 4,000 rockets in less than a minute from 4 LSMs modified to carry 85 Mk51 automatic rocket launchers. Reload time was 1 to 2 hours. Minimal accuracy was overcame by pure volume.🫡

The French Nord 1500 Griffon II experimental ramjet interceptor first flew on Jan 23, 1957. This delta-wing machine paired a SNECMA Atar turbojet with a Nord ramjet, hitting Mach 2.19 at 50,000ft and setting a1,440 mph closed-circuit record in Oct 1959. never entered production.

Interestingly, as I discovered, during WWI, catapults and improvised slingshots were used to launch grenades into enemy trenches, a necessity in trench warfare. The Leach Trench Catapult was a key device used by the British. These manual, rubber-powered launchers could throw bombs 120–200 yards. They were used for trench raids, as they were silent compared to mortars.👀
