Icelandair pilot under investigation after flying at a low altitude over the town of Vestmannaeyjar on Saturday. The Boeing 757 was on a scheduled flight from Frankfurt when the pilot on his last flight went on a sightseeing flight over his childhood home in the Westman Islands without the knowledge or permission of the company. Chief Flight Officer at Icelandair Linda Gunnarsdóttir said in a statement, "This is just a very serious matter that we will look into here internally. It's just the case in aviation that everything is very rigid in work processes, checklists and other things like that, what we do in normal passenger flights, and it doesn't fall within that framework." Linda says she expects passengers to have been informed about the sightseeing flight, but she cannot say that yet. She is also unable to comment at this time on the consequences for the pilot, who is leaving the company. The matter is, as previously stated, under consideration by the company.

On this day, Air India Flight AI171, departed Ahmedabad Airport at 13:38 local time on a scheduled service to London Gatwick, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Just 32 seconds after becoming airborne, the aircraft crashed into a Medical College hostel complex in Ahmedabad's Meghaninagar suburb, approximately 0.9 nautical miles from the runway. The impact scattered wreckage across roughly 37,000 square metres and damaged five buildings. Of the 242 people on board, all but one passenger were killed, while at least 19 people on the ground also lost their lives. The crash was the first fatal hull-loss accident involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner since the aircraft entered commercial service. The AAIB continues its investigation. The central unresolved question is why the fuel control switches moved — whether due to deliberate action, inadvertent input, technical malfunction, a maintenance issue, component failure, or unexpected system behavior. No conclusions have yet been reached. India's Civil Aviation Minister Naidu has stated that the investigation is in its "last stage" and that findings will "mostly" be available within approximately a month. Officials have indicated that, should technical questions remain unresolved, an interim report may be issued rather than a final set of conclusions.
