Today I started a 4-day oversight visit to our borders to assess the welfare of SANDF troops, the state of equipment and facilities, and the conditions under which our soldiers serve. We will be focusing on Mpumalanga and KZN for this round. This visit forms part of our ongoing efforts to improve the conditions of service and ensure that those who protect our borders are properly supported and equipped.

Day 2 of my border oversight mission has concluded after visiting the Sand River, Mbuzini, Samora Machel and Macadamia border posts, together with other military establishments in Mpumalanga. These engagements have enabled me to identify a number of immediate, practical interventions that can be implemented without delay. I have accordingly convened a meeting with the senior leadership of the SANDF to ensure these low-hanging fruits are implemented as a matter of urgency. An SANDF that works is an SANDF that is well taken care of. Our soldiers deserve the resources, support and dignity required to fulfil their constitutional mandate. #SANDF #Defence

Responding to oral questions to the peace and security cluster today in the National Assembly, I emphasised that there can be no further delays in the National Treasury implementing the President’s directive to increase the Defence budget from 0.7% to 1.5% of GDP.

The developed world is using our coal to generate electricity for their citizens. Here at home we are told to close down coal generated plants. This export business of our coal is estimated to be around 700%. Comrades in coal business can u at least give the same clean coal.

Congratulations to the Gauteng 527 graduates of the South African National Institute( SANSI) who recently completed their training ,which focussed on discipline, public service and practical skills. This programme is under the leadership of the SANDF. Other provinces to follow .
