When Nancy Mace appeared on Pierce Morgan's show last November and he suggested that she has a "hatred of trans[™] people" she answered that she *is* (as in currently) pro-lgbT but draws the line at bathrooms. Bathrooms, women's sports, even putting men in women's prisons are all rhetorical red herring excesses downstream from the premise actually in political contention: whether "gender identity/expression" should be recognized in law. To focus on transing kids, or bathrooms, or sports while not rejecting the premise root and stem is to critique the excesses, and reify the premise.

That being said, of course any human tragedy is a tragedy, but if you're using that tragedy to intimidate people and informally censor the discourse, I take the rhetorical position of callous indifference - if not outright denial/approval - just to undercut the motional/moral blackmail inherent in bringing it up Broke: Holocaust Denialism™ Bespoke: Holocaust Apathy™ "Horrible tragedy. I simply do not care. It has no bearing on my opinions on anything in the here and now"
