When Mercury Records executive Charlie Fach heard the track while reviewing their Not Fragile album sessions, he insisted it had major radio potential and demanded it be included on the record. Randy tried re-recording the song with a "serious" vocal delivery, but it lacked the charm of the original take and sounded flat, so they kept the joke version. It became BTO's only number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100.
