The further footage only makes this look worse. It shows the victim of the attack who had already been arrested being escorted to the police car, with a female officer calling him a “dick”, before he's put into the police vehicle the wrong way. From start to finish, the whole incident appears to have been handled poorly. In my view, the police should stop doubling down, acknowledge that serious questions have been raised, apologise if mistakes were made, and carry out a full, transparent investigation into what went wrong. Public confidence isn't restored by telling people not to share the footage. It's restored by showing accountability when policing appears to fall below the standard the public expects.

The CPS post announcing Danny Tommo had been charged now appears to have disappeared from Crown Prosecution Service main timeline. Also, i can still find the post because i reshared it here, but when I open it, the replies appear to have been disabled and not viewable anymore, after the post received heavy criticism. Why is the CPS post no longer visible on its timeline, and why have the replies apparently been restricted from view? Public bodies should be transparent about what they publish, particularly when announcing criminal charges. What has happened here?

I came to Market Street, Manchester today specifically to check how far Barclays is from Sports Direct after I said yesterday it was a 3 minute walk. Cody Harper could have been sent to prison today had prosecutors not dropped the case yesterday. Huge credit to everyone who refused to let this story disappear. Millions saw it, and the public scrutiny mattered. When Robert Jenrick raised the case in Parliament, it took the issue to another level. Whatever your politics, we cannot stay silent when people believe the justice system has got something this wrong. Public accountability matters.

He was running a public debate stand, discussing ideas with members of the public, similar to the format used by Charlie Kirk in the United States. You don't have to agree with his opinions. You don't even have to like him. I personally disagree with many of his views. But there is absolutely no place for political violence on British streets. Those responsible should be identified and dealt with through the legal system.
