The shootout in the #NHL has become such a friggin’ joke. In what Peewee game would a shooter have this amount of time without getting annihilated? A silly gimmick whose time has long passed. #Habs #Avs #Leafs #Sportsnet

He didn’t score on this attempt but I give Willie Nylander a ton of credit for keeping his shootout try within the spirit of the game - coming in with speed as he would in regulation play. Rather than the absurd, side-to-side antics of most NHLers that would have them demolished in an actual game. #Leafs #LeafsForever #CBC #Canadiens

Feb. 1, 1996. #Philadelphia Spectrum. You’ll never see more of a cheap shot than the one delivered by Marc Bureau of the #Canadiens on Petr Svoboda of the #Flyers. You can hear the anger from the Philly broadcasters Jim Jackson and Gary Dornhoefer. #Montreal #Habs #NHL #Leafs

WARNING: This is difficult to watch. #Argos quarterback Chad Kelly essentially trying to hold his right leg together. Listen to the anguish from the offensive lineman after he looks at Kelly. Sad. #CFL #TSN #GreyCup #Leafs

Arguably the most-violent #hockey game I’ve ever attended. Apr. 15, 1976. Game 3 of the #StanleyCup quarterfinals at the Gardens between the #Leafs and #Flyers. Listen to Hall-of-Famer Ted Lindsay sounding ridiculous on the Philly telecast by blaming Ian Turnbull for being high-sticked by Bobby Clarke. This was the night that three #Philadelphia players were charged with assault by #Ontario Attorney General Roy McMurtry. #LeafsForever

Oct. 14, 1995. Maple Leaf Gardens. Tie Domi’s infamous sucker-punch on Ulf Samuelson of the #Rangers. It earned the #Leafs enforcer an eight-game suspension from Brian Burke, who ran #NHL discipline back then. Sam Rosen and John Davidson of the New York telecast called the incident. #LeafsForever

Watching Bobby Orr kill a penalty in his prime was sick. Such as during this game, in 1969-70, at the old Civic Arena in #Pittsburgh. #Bruins #Penguins #NHL #Leafs

Mar. 25, 1994. Pacific Coliseum, #Vancouver. Less than three months before clashing in the #StanleyCup final, the #Canucks and #Rangers were close to erupting. Lots of words and dirty looks involving Pat Quinn, Mike Keenan, Mark Messier and others. While a perplexed John Davidson of the #MSG crew tries to make reason of it. #NewYork #NHL #Leafs

Jeff O’Neill has always been good on the air but his performance has risen ten-fold since #TSN’s parent company - #Bell - divested in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. This intensity of dialogue would not be heard on #Sportsnet or Hockey Night In #Canada. It’s O’Dog at his best - tonight - on #Overdrive. #Leafs #LeafsForever

May 4, 2001. Air Canada Centre. I covered this series between the #Leafs and New Jersey #Devils for The FAN-590. #Toronto had all the emotional momentum until Tie Domi absurdly threw an elbow at Scott Niedermayer. Here’s the TV segment from #CBC. Harry Neale does most of the talking and was surprised, at first, like everyone in the arena but Scott Stevens, who saw the cheap shot. He was in the penalty box below my press location and was romping around like a caged animal. We soon understood why. #LeafsForever

Epic rant on #TSN #Overdrive by O-Dog, aimed primarily at Keith Pelley for fancying himself as a hockey man. Again, this unvarnished media commentary can only happen because TSN’s parent company, #Bell, divested itself from #MLSE. Last year, no chance this occurs. #Leafs #LeafsForever

Jan. 16, 1992. #Chicago Stadium. The night Stu Grimson of the #Blackhawks lost his mind against the #Leafs. Jim Hughson and Gary Green called the scene on #TSN. It was two weeks to the day the Leafs had acquired Doug Gilmour from the #Flames. #LeafsForever

Apr. 30, 2002. Air Canada Centre. After the #Leafs beat the #Islanders in Game 7; the home team winning all matches. It was the most-vicious playoff series of my 17 seasons covering the Leafs for The FAN-590. Scott Oake did interviews on the ice with Alyn McCauley, Gary Roberts, Curtis Joseph and Bryan McCabe. Bob Cole and Harry Neale called the series on #CBC. This #Toronto team had loads of character. If healthy, it could have won the #StanleyCup. Instead , Leafs lost to #Carolina in six games of the Cup semifinals. #LeafsForever

The late Bob Probert at his worst. Dec. 23, 1987. Joe Louis Arena. The #RedWings and #Sabres in a dandy brawl. My ol’ media pal, Mike Robitaille, is rather clairvoyant alongside legendary #Buffalo broadcaster Ted Darling, who tried out his singing voice. #Detroit #NHL #hockeyfights #Leafs #LeafsForever

Dec. 31, 1975. #Montreal Forum. Watch the first shift of the #Canadiens vs. #Soviet Red Army exhibition and you’ll know why it is still referred to as the “greatest hockey game ever played.” Guy Lafleur was the best player in the world. Of course, Danny Gallivan was at the microphone. The match ended in a 3-3 tie. #NHL #Habs #Leafs
