![Stunning moment yesterday in the civil trial of Miami Republican State Rep. Fabian Basabe who is being sued for sexually harassing his former Florida House legislative intern and aide, and later defaming the staffer and his mother. Basabe sat SILENT for TEN SECONDS on the stand in front of a shocked Leon County courtroom in Tallahassee, not answering a question from plaintiffs’ attorney Katherine Viker. That video is coming soon…) Basabe, who is not an attorney and did not attend law school, is representing himself, and has “fumble[d]” his way through the “chaotic” first days of the trial, according to the Miami Herald, and has been repeatedly admonished for “violating court orders…at least five times” by Judge J. Lee Marsh. Following a sidebar, Marsh sustained Basabe’s objection and he did not have to answer the question. Basabe, 48, has an arrest record that includes DUI, public urination, civil theft, and robbery by sudden snatching of a woman’s cellphone caught on video that led to his apprehension by the US Marshals fugitive task force. Basabe was disqualified from his first run for lying about his address, but successfully elected in 2022 and 2024. He is currently up for re-election. Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins has a problem with Black people — particularly Black women. One incident could be accidental. Two; unfortunate. Three? Coincidence, perhaps... But for her first seven months in office, it's been a continuous series of overt acts of disrespect and even outright disenfranchisement of a community who helped elect Higgins by a huge margin — including screwing Miami’s Historic Black Overtown neighborhood out of a $25 million federal grant… #BecauseMiami

Florida woman, Heidy Sanchez, 44, living in Tampa since 2019, deported to communist Cuba — separated from her one-year-old daughter (who was still being breastfed) and U.S. citizen husband — during regularly scheduled check-in at ICE office. Her husband Carlos Yuniel Valle says she disappeared into an unknown immigration detention facility last Tuesday and, less than 72 hours later, was sent to Havana on a plane from Miami with 82 migrants, where she has no home.

The City of Miami Beach has a First Amendment problem... I've been trying to ask accused serial sex pest mayor Steven Meiner questions for months and city staff like Daphne Saba ignore emails, delay public records requests and sneak him around city hall and out the back door to avoid the public and press. My roots in this city go back generations and it's a tragedy how Meiner and his Tonton Macoute have destroyed our beautiful island town. There are a lot of decent hard-working people working at the city, but they're being held hostage by corrupt and incompetent leadership. Meiner, city mismanager Eric Carpenter, city attorney/mob lawyer Ricardo Dopico, police chief Wayne Jones, and city commissioners have sent a clear message that ethics can be ignored, laws broken and the Constitution violated — without consequence…

"Let's do a capitalism, guys!" After being sued for violating Florida's Sunshine Law in a secret meeting to give away a 2.63-acre prime parcel of Downtown Miami real estate (worth up $360 million) for a Trump Presidential Library "component," the Miami-Dade College Board of Trustees met again this week to hear from the public and re-vote. Surprise twist: I support it! (In part.) A legit world class cultural and educational institution would be an outstanding attraction and resource for our community and tourists. But it can't be for $0. This is a real estate deal and they gotta get fair market value to help secure the future of the school. When the word "trust" is in your title (trustee!), you have a fiduciary duty to act in the best interest of the college, students and faculty — so of course, they voted to give it away for free again! #BecauseMiami

Miami Commissioners CANCEL this Year’s Elections — and the Miami of Today is the America of Tomorrow… #BecauseMiami In a 3-2 vote, commissioners unilaterally canceled local elections and GIFTED THEMSELVES AN EXTRA YEAR IN OFFICE. This includes Mayor Ponzi Postalita Francis Suarez (who now gets 17 consecutive years) and Commissioner Carollo (9 years) — both of whom were term limited in November, but magically not anymore! BTW I miraculously find myself on the same side of this issue as Carollo, who voted against it! It is fundamentally unethical (and a violation of the city charter’s emoluments clause) for commissioners to vote to give themselves this personal and political benefit — including an additional $100,000+ each in salary and benefits. They should have brought this to voters as a referendum. The layers of disenfranchisement are staggering. With less than five months before the election, 18 people have already filed to run for one of the three open seats (mayor, District 3 and District 5 commission). Commissioners Damian Pardo (who sponsored this misguided item), newly elected Ralph Rosado and Christine King voted in favor, while Miguel Gabela and Carollo voted against. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Attorney General James Uthmeier say this is unconstitutional and vow legal action.

ROBBERY: Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins promised a “deep dive” to find waste and misuse in the city budget — which has DOUBLED in the last 5 years with 77% going to salaries and benefits. Instead, Higgins wants a HALF-A-BILLION DOLLAR credit card while we’re already drowning in debt from Marlins Park and other high interest bonds. Salaries for Miami city employees are up 54% and benefits up 62% in the last three years and the number of city hall insiders making over $200,000 has DOUBLED in two years. While regular Miami residents — with a median household income of $66,000 — have only seen a 2-3% increase in wages per year. And now Higgins, city manager James Reyes (salary: $475,000 and lives in Broward), Commissioner Damian Pardo and city attorney George Wysong (salary: $417,000 and doesn’t live in the city) are covering up public records that document how much taxpayer money they actually pay out to city workers. #BecauseMiami

Shocking testimony in the civil trial of Miami Republican State Rep. Fabian Basabe who is being sued for s*xually harassing his former Florida House legislative intern and aide, and later defaming the staffer and his mother. In a sworn proffer taken outside the jury’s presence yesterday to determine admissibility, a man identified only as “T.S.” accused Basabe of drugging and r*ping him in 2003. The Miami Herald previously reported on T.S.’s allegations and Basabe called them “false” and “baseless.” Judge J. Lee Marsh ordered the media not to reveal T.S.’s identity and ultimately determined “this evidence to be inadmissible…because it is marginally relevant and it goes to a tangential issue. I find the danger of confusion of the issues in this case to substantially outweigh the probative value of this evidence. The court, makes no findings as to whether this happened or did not happen as that is not appropriate for the court at this matter. The court takes the, allegations at face value for purposes of this motion only. But the court reaffirms its order denying the plaintiff the ability to call T.S. in this case,” which involves incidents that occurred 20 years later. Overpriced furniture hustler Art Noriega should've been fired YEARS ago for facilitating, enabling and participating in much of the corruption that has nearly destroyed our community.
