Fans are terrible at judging players. Put a talented player at Crystal Palace and suddenly he’s “good.” Put the same player at Bayern Munich and suddenly everyone calls him world-class. Michael Olise is a perfect example of why that thinking is flawed. At Palace, the talent was already there: • Elite 1v1 ability • Exceptional left foot • Creativity • Final-ball quality • Ability to play between the lines • Courage to take responsibility Bayern didn’t magically create those qualities. Vincent Kompany gave him a bigger platform, clearer structure and an environment where those qualities could become consistently decisive. From Crystal Palace to Bayern Munich. From promising talent to elite performer. From potential to production. 25 goals + 28 assists in 57 games in 2025/26. Now he’s in the Ballon d’Or conversation. This is why I don’t judge a player by the badge on his chest. I judge the player. The tools. The mentality. The decision-making. The ceiling. Because sometimes the “mid-table player” you’re watching is actually a world-class player waiting for the right environment to reveal himself. Olise is the case study.

Kalmar FF tagged me in their story today ahead of Sunday’s game against BK Häcken. I immediately went back to the match that changed everything for me that season. Returned from a 1-month injury. Only trained 3 times that week. Nanne Bergstrand called me into his office the day before the game. “Abi, you will start tomorrow.” I told him I hadn’t trained enough. He said: “I know you, Abi. I will start you because we need you. You can give me 60 good minutes.” That confidence changed everything. I scored a hat-trick. ⚽⚽⚽ Finished the season with 14 Allsvenskan goals and 18 in all competitions. That season, we won Kalmar FF’s first-ever league title. I also became the club’s third-highest goalscorer in league history. But the biggest lesson? Sometimes, one person’s belief in you is all you need to unlock what was already inside you. My development took longer than expected, but Kalmar FF believed in me. That club will always be part of me. Some matches are bigger than football. This was one of them. ❤️ #KalmarFF

Today, I say goodbye to the game that gave me everything. Twenty years ago, I left home with nothing but a dream. I never knew where football would take me, only that I would give it everything I had. The journey wasn’t easy. There were sacrifices, setbacks, victories, tears, and moments I’ll cherish forever. Every shirt I wore, every teammate I stood beside, and every supporter who believed in me became part of my story. To my family, friends, coaches, teammates, and fans—thank you for carrying me through every chapter. I leave the pitch with no regrets, only gratitude. Football shaped my life, and I will love this game forever. This is not the end—it’s the beginning of a new chapter. Thank you for everything. ❤️⚽ — Abiola Dauda

A lot of options has been shared in relations to whether 11v11 is more difficult to play than 5v5 and for most people who understand or played on a professional level will tell you 5v5 will expose all your weaknesses and that doesn't matter if you're a goal keeper or striker. Victor Boniface and many other professional shared their takes on this matter but we still have people with strong heads saying 11aside is harder than 5aside. The same Boniface advice you players who are looking to go pro that during your trial period you will play more 5v5 than 11aside game because that's where you can be exposed. The games are very different and the rules are as well but the major things about this games are the intensity to defend and attack the same time and even a goal keeper feel it the most depending on the space you're playing in. 5v5 will text your shooting, dribbling, decision making, defence ability, creativity, link up plays, and the mentality to win a game. There are variations to this games and you can play it based on what the coach wants to achieve with the training. But the classic 5v5 to test players conditions with the intensity and workload required for the meters covered, accelerations, decelerations, sprints, and heart rates and the lactic acid levels of the players are no jokes for any professional.

The first time I got to speak Swedish on national television after scoring twice against Gais at home in 2012 season. Everything that happened in that season was a sign of my inner power and I made that decision to tap into it and the rest was history. I will drop some tips I used that breakthrough season later in my next post.... For now don't laugh at me speaking Swedish.

My first Allsvenskan goal was against Djurgården at Fredriksskans on the 10/05/2008. Before I made my first team debut for Kalmar FF, I spent 3months playing for the reserve team while I training with the first team on a daily basis. My first encounter with Nanne Bergstrand before I signed with Kalmar FF, he told me how much he trusted me and how he will love it that I joint the team after laying down the plans for me in the team. He said "you will be the joker of the team this season" I didn't understand what he meant be that but I didn't care about that because I trusted myself enough that I will definitely play more than a joker role if given the chance. So during this 3months playing for the Reverse Team I was not happy at missing games for the first team at all because training with them made me feel like I can play in this team. During one of the games with the reverse team against Malmo FF away from home was when everything thing changed for me. Playing against them is always difficult even their first team. We won the game 3-4 and i scored 4 scored 4 goals against a very good Malmo FF reserve team and that was the last time I played for the reserves that season. The next day there was no recovery for me so I had to training with the first team as usual. Nanne called me before training and told me I will be with part of the first team match squad moving forward. May 10th I scored my first Professional goal after being on the pitch for 10mins and I did it in style. I was so happy to have scored the last goal of the game to give us a comfortable 5-1 win. The joy and tears in my eyes was the reward for my patience and determination to prove myself that I have a place in the first team. I went on to play 21 games for the first team and became the replacement for our Brazilian star Caesar Santin who joined Fc Copenhagen. Be patient with yourself and trust in your abilities to make it happen.

Let's talk about training and how hard you need to push yourself at home before you go for any trials. I remember when I knew that I will be traveling for a trial, i stopped going out of my neighbourhood to play football and I just locked in on training for 2month straight. I will do a roadside jogging from my house to the pitch at Ashiribo and I will train for like 2hrs or more and that was my routine every week except Sundays to rest and I did that for 2 months. Victor McDonald assigned me a coach to train and get me ready and he was by far the hardest I have ever trained. Days where I will tie a tyre around my waist to run on the sand, I did a lot of running, strength training, speed work on the sand with tyre. People who see me train have no idea why I was k!lling myself to train that hard. I once trained with Raphael Edereho a guy who I was looking up at that time and I was not able to walk for 2 days after training with him. I trained like my life depends on it. And I stayed away from many things that will slow me down like, bad friends, drinking, sm0king, including girls and I was just locked in on my purpose to make it happen and it paid off. After 3 months that I left Nigeria the news broke out that I signed for Sölvesborg GIF and People were surprised to see it in the news paper and even my father got asked questions like how or when did I traveled. I thought I trained well enough but to my surprise I was no where near ready at all. I couldn't believe what I saw during the trainings I had to call one of my coaches back home and tell him how hard the trainings are for me. The new generation of young players don't like to train and they except someone to just come and say I will take you to trials. Many have failed not because they don't have the talent but because they don't train enough to meet the standards and social media has made them think otherwise. Your preparation is the most important thing you can do for sure yourself and just like Kobe Bryant said if you are well prepared for it you will not be afraid of failure.
