Congratulations to the winners of the first-ever Initiative for Global Road Safety Speed Challenge. We encouraged cities and states to adopt the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended speed limits of less than 50 kilometers per hour in urban areas and under 30 kilometers per hour near high-risk zones like schools and hospitals. These eight winners also effectively implemented additional strategies to reduce speeding, such as running media campaigns, redesigning city streets, and more.

Coal is the single largest contributor of global warming. By phasing out coal, we can reduce emissions, protect public health, and halt the progression of climate change. Today’s closure of the Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station, the last coal plant in the UK, is a monumental step for the UK to fulfill its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reaching net-zero by 2050.
