Sent to us from an officer who told us this was filmed last Wednesday afternoon at Riverside Veterinary Clinic in Indianapolis, Indiana. Made us stop in our tracks and left us in TEARS. Here it is, in it's entirety: "The officer is Sergeant Paul Greer. He's 41 years old. Fourteen-year veteran of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. The dog is Bruno. A ten-year-old German Shepherd who served eight years as Paul's K9 partner before a joint condition ended his working career two years ago. When Bruno retired from active duty, Paul adopted him immediately. Brought him home. Bruno spent his retirement on Paul's couch, on Paul's bed, in the passenger seat of Paul's personal truck. The transition from working partner to household companion was seamless. Bruno had always been Paul's dog. The badge and the vest were just part of the job. Over the past several months, Bruno's condition had declined steadily. The joint condition spread. He had difficulty getting up. Stopped eating regularly. A female Fort Worth police officer was caught on camera threatening to ticket a retired federal law enforcement officer and Christian street preacher for “offensive speech.” The officer told the man that if someone is offended by his preaching, then “we have a problem” and said she would issue him a ticket. When he asked if she was really going to ticket him for offensive speech, she replied, “Yes, I am.” This is a blatant violation of the First Amendment. Police officers do not have the authority to ticket people for speech that offends others. That is the exact opposite of how freedom of speech works in America. The fact that this officer targeted a retired federal law enforcement officer who was simply preaching makes this even more unacceptable. Departments that employ officers who openly disregard the Constitution need to clean house. This kind of behavior erodes public trust and makes every good officer’s job harder. A legally blind Navy veteran was arrested after a deputy mistook his cane for a gun. On October 31, 2022, James Hodges, then 61, was walking home in Lake City, Florida, after jury duty was canceled. Deputy Jayme Gohde stopped him, believing the folded mobility cane in his back pocket was a handgun. Hodges immediately showed her it was a cane. When he refused to provide identification and demanded the officers’ names and badge numbers, Sgt. Randy Harrison ordered him arrested for resisting without violence. Hodges spent time in jail before the charge was dropped. Sheriff Mark Hunter called the deputies’ conduct “unacceptable” and publicly apologized. Gohde received a two-day suspension without pay. Harrison was demoted, given a seven-day suspension without pay, and barred from raises or promotions for two years. Both were ordered to complete remedial civil-rights training. Hodges later filed a civil rights lawsuit that was settled out of court. A Navy veteran doing nothing wrong ended up in handcuffs over a white cane.
