There hasn’t been any environmental cost benefit analysis that’s why a controversial legislative instrument “L.I 2462” was implemented in 2022. Kidney cases are on the rise, children are being born with birth defects, and communities are subjected to polluted water. Our environmental destruction has gone so far that we’re polluting transboundary rivers shared with neighboring countries like Cote D’Ivoire. #StopGalamseyNow

Mercury and cyanide, chemicals often used in the process, contaminate rivers and waterbodies, making them unsafe for drinking and farming. Many communities rely on the water from these rivers that are contaminated. Water treatments centers are shutting down due to the inability to filter the contaminated water. Babies are being born with birth defects, and there’s been a rise in kidney failure and other health related cases.
