He often went into battle without a helmet or body armor and was especially known for the fatherly care and concern he showed toward his fellow fighters. He fell in battle on June 26, 2026. Two Ukrainian soldiers from the Kraken Regiment's Shybenyk Squad moved into position to provide covering fire for an evacuation team in Chasiv Yar. Unbeknownst to them, Russian forces had intercepted their radio communications and were waiting for their arrival. Moments after reaching their position, they came under direct tank fire. 0:22 ; One soldier sustained minor injuries, but despite the ambush, both the covering team and the evacuation group successfully withdrew to safety. The assault group of the 3rd Mechanized Battalion, 53rd Mechanized Brigade, conducted a clearance operation through the forests and houses surrounding a frontline village in the Lyman sector. Two Russian fighters managed to infiltrate past Ukrainian forward positions but were quickly detected by aerial reconnaissance. Operators from the 8th SOF Regiment discovered them during a building sweep. The video shows the first combat engagement of the Kayfariki Assault Platoon, 1st Battalion of the 78th Special Forces Regiment (now the 78th Air Assault Brigade) during the Zaporizhzhia counteroffensive in June 2023. For many of the soldiers, it was their first experience in combat. The footage shows the platoon's assault on a tree line codenamed "A" and captures the reality of the opening days of the offensive - minefields, incoming fire, confusion, chaos, and the first losses suffered by the unit. By around 5 a.m. the following morning, the platoon had withdrawn from the area. While the unit had suffered wounded personnel, everyone else made it out alive. Near the village of Mala Tokmachka. June 18, 2023. 0:01 - Preparation. 6:55 - The beginning of the assault: Footage from a MaxxPro MRAP, a Russian drone attack, and the first vehicle hitting a mine. 8:42 - The second vehicle dismounts the troops, turns around, and strikes a mine on its way back. 09:09 - The second assault group reaches the tree line but immediately comes under intense enemy fire. 10:38 - The cameraman is wounded by a stray bullet. 14:31 - The reinforcement group arrives but is initially confused by the chaotic situation on the ground. 23:37 - Evacuation of the wounded and withdrawal. 26:45 - On the way to the stabilization point: Medics provide first aid to the wounded.

In my humble opinion, Ukraine keeps repeating the same mistake in urban fighting in almost every settlement - one that could be avoided but still receives no attention. I’ve been reading about it again and again in local Telegram chats since 2024: - Russians are moving around the city in civilian clothes. - It’s impossible to tell a civilian from a Russian. - Russians use locals as shields, so artillery/fpv strikes can’t be carried out. - Local collaborators pass targets, troop dispositions/routes and updates to the Russians. - The fighters were on their mission when they came across wounded civilians, making it necessary to evacuate them. - Volunteers went to frontline village to evacuate civilians, but unfortunately, on their way back, they were struck by a Russian drone, killing a well-known Ukrainian volunteer...... (The same team who encountered "friendly" Russian fighter in Ukrainsk.) - The 68th Jaeger Brigade writes in TG Channel on 1st November - "cases of the enemy disguising themselves in civilian clothes are not uncommon at all. And this greatly complicates the work. Of course, we cannot under any circumstances operate against civilians....And in general, the fact that there are still up to one and a half thousand local civilians in the city makes the situation very difficult for us." - Just before that their commander commented about the situation and "how difficult it is to distinguish civilians from disguised saboteurs" & "there are situations when a person in civilian clothes engages in small arms fire and inflicts damage on our positions" and so on. Just a simple fact - in 2024 SBU said they opened over 7,000 criminal proceedings for collaboration and aiding the aggressor since the full‑scale invasion began. Most of these cases are from Donetsk Oblast. and am sure real numbers are even higher. I read almost the same things a few weeks ago about Kupiansk. Telegram posts said Russians were hiding in locals’ cellars. I checked, and in September only about 700 civilians were still living in the town. In my opinion, a city of such military importance, facing an inevitable battle, must be strictly sealed off. Locals must be evacuated - especially considering there has been more than a year to prepare. Strict quarantine measures are necessary, with full control over everyone entering or leaving the city. If these were large numbers, I’d understand that it’s difficult - but 700 people? or 1,500? (Pokrovsk) Or even 5,000? (Konstantinivka)............I also understand that when you have to act quickly - it’s difficult. But a year ago, everyone knew that an inevitable battle awaited Pokrovsk. And there was at least a year to prepare for it. So the question arises - why weren’t these 700, 1, 500 or even 5,000 people evacuated, even through a forced evacuation? Forced evacuation sounds strict, but… it has its reasons: Civilian safety, operational freedom for the military, easier control, less strain on logistics, limiting collaboration or coercion. Unfortunately, If this problem isn’t addressed, we will soon read the same reports from other cities as well. What do you think? On the video: A local from the town of Niu York happily assists Russian bikers as they leave. (They probably spent the night at his home) - the same Russians who, last year, leveled his settlement to the ground.
