Want to see a crime in progress? It was actually a first for our drone team after we received a report this morning about a man breaking into cars near Pearl Street. Our Drone as First Responder officers heard the call come out and immediately sent a drone to the scene. Within 30 seconds, it captured this video. Thankfully, our officers in cars arrived shortly thereafter and swiftly took the suspect into custody without issue. He was then booked into jail on three counts of First Degree Trespass to a Vehicle. Theft, and Criminal Possession of a Financial Transaction Device. We share this because we believe there could be additional victims whose cars were broken into. So if you parked in the alley or street area near the 1000 block of Pearl Street around 11 a.m. today, please check your cars and let us know if you might have been victimized. You can call Dispatch non-emergency anytime at 303-441-3333 reference case 25-12004. We’d also like to take this moment to remind the community that one of the best ways to protect your property and your vehicles is to keep them locked. As in every criminal case, these charges are an accusation, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.

Gotcha Boulder Police have taken three reports recently of a man looking into a woman’s apartment and taking photos. This past Thursday night would be different. Officers Myers and Diaz were ready. After waiting in the dark nearby, just before 10 p.m., they saw him. Moments later they took him into custody. He was then booked into the jail on charges of criminal invasion of privacy and third degree trespass. If you think you might be a victim of such a crime, please report it by calling Dispatch at 303-441-3333. Sadly this is not the first suspect we’ve arrested for such crimes and he won’t be the last, which is why we share these important safety reminders: keep your blinds and windows closed at night—especially if you live on the first floor or a below-ground floor apartment—and always lock your doors and windows. Doing this and being aware of your surroundings goes a long way. We want everyone to feel safe in our community, which is why it’s important we all work together.

Are you Serious? It was early afternoon this past Thanksgiving when our Traffic officers responded to a serious crash at Foothills Parkway and Arapahoe. Thankfully everyone was okay, but a pair of grandparents with three young grandkids from out of state were stranded after their rental car was totaled. Nothing was open on the holiday, the rental car company wanted several hundred dollars to send another vehicle out, and the family was staying at a hotel far outside of Boulder. Our Traffic Team brought the family back to the BPD, where it was warm, gave the kiddos some candy, and Officer Bergh paid for an Uber XL out of his own pocket to get the family safely and comfortably back to their hotel. Nicely done Officer Bergh. *Shared with permission by the family.

The Boulder Police Department wants the community to be aware about a man looking into women’s homes on University Hill. On Nov. 17, officers were called to a residence in the 1900 block of Aurora Avenue for a report of an incident that occurred two days earlier. At approximately 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, an unknown man was seen on surveillance video pacing back and forth outside a home in the 1100 block of 10th Street and looking into multiple windows. The suspect, who was trying to conceal his face, was last seen wearing a zip-up long-sleeve hoodie with a puffy vest over it. He was also wearing a ball cap and black jeans. Officers believe it could be the same suspect and are urging the community to be vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity as soon as safely possible by calling 911. Anyone with any information about this suspect or these crimes is asked to call the Boulder Police tipline at 303-441-1974 regarding case 25-11088.

Just as the sun was setting last night Officers Castro and Ray were called to 30th and Valmont for a report of a vehicle that had crashed and was hanging precariously on a retaining wall. As they ran up to the car, they also learned that a 4-year-old child was in the back seat. Thankfully, with the assistance of Boulder Fire-Rescue , officers were able to get both the child and driver safely out of the car. The driver was charged with careless driving, reckless endangerment and child abuse due to the circumstances. Officers are investigating the possibility that the driver had a medical event. As in every criminal case, these charges are an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty. We’d like to note that Officer Ray’s comments about our firefighter friends are completely………true #boulder #bouldercolorado

Officer Seriously Injured in Drug Sales Arrest; Suspect given $100 Bond Option BOULDER, Colo. – A Boulder Police officer was seriously injured last night after a drug suspect tried to run and the pair fell into Boulder Creek during the struggle. Despite the suspect’s criminal history, the serious nature of this crime, and the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office asking for a $20,000 secured bond, County Court Judge Eang Man gave the suspect a $1,000 bond with the option to only pay $100 to be released. “This incident is deeply troubling—not only because one of our officers was injured as a direct result of a suspect fleeing, but because it highlights the very real dangers that drug trafficking poses to our entire community,” Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn said. “I also have serious concerns about whether the full risk to our community, the severity of this incident, and risk to and impact on our officers was reflected in the bond decision. This is a pattern that is frustrating because these bond decisions directly impact community safety and the well-being of the men and women who serve Boulder, as well as their families.” Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said, “This defendant is charged with a serious drug felony. It is especially aggravated because it happened in a public space in downtown Boulder. Then, the defendant caused significant and scary injuries to the police officer who attempted to enforce the law. I’m very thankful that the officer has been discharged from the hospital. Given the defendant’s criminal history, his actions here, and the injuries suffered by the officer, our prosecutor asked for a high, secured bond. That was definitely the right thing to do. Our office will continue to fight for justice in this case.” The incident began at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, when officers were patrolling on foot in Central Park at 1236 Canyon Blvd. after receiving community complaints about drug dealing as well as calls of overdoses in the area. Officers saw a woman smoking suspected methamphetamine and while speaking with her, she pointed to a man near the creek who she said had sold her the drugs. Officers then spoke with that man, but when they asked him to sit down, he started to run away. An officer gave chase and the pair fell into the creek during the struggle to take him into custody. Despite the suspect landing on top of the officer and the officer hitting his head on a rock in the water, the officer managed to get up, hold on to the suspect and get him into custody with other officers before he collapsed. His fellow officers called for an ambulance and the officer was transported to the hospital. The officer suffered a serious concussion and cuts and bruises but has thankfully been discharged and is recovering at home. “According to the Boulder County Coroner’s Office, there were 26 fatal drug overdoses in the City of Boulder in 2025, many occurring in public spaces. This is exactly why our officers were proactively working to identify and stop those who are selling dangerous, potentially deadly drugs in our city,” Chief Redfearn said. “Last night, our officers were doing exactly what our community has asked of us. If the water levels in the creek were lower, or higher, this situation could have easily resulted in a life-altering or even fatal outcome. We are incredibly grateful that our officer was not severely injured.” The suspect in this crime—Kai Brown (date of birth 12/06/1976)—was found with several individually-packaged baggies of suspect methamphetamine. He was charged with: · 18-3-204 Assault in the Third Degree - Misdemeanor · 18-18-407 Special drug Offender - Felony · 18-8-103 – Resisting Arrest - Misdemeanor · 18-8-104 – Obstructing a Peace Officer - Misdemeanor · 18-18-405 –Distribution of a Level 1 Drug - Misdemeanor · 18-18-403.5 – Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance - Misdemeanor As in every criminal case, these charges are an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.

Recognize this E-Moto Rider? One of our Traffic officers was on patrol recently in the 4800 block of Baseline Road when he saw a rider on an e-moto driving recklessly. He tried to stop the rider but he hopped the grass median and eluded the officer into a nearby neighborhood. A short time later the rider was seen again performing a wheelie on Folsom Street near Regent Avenue. The rider then stopped at a red light at Folsom and Arapahoe and the officer tried to make contact on foot. But the rider sped off for a second time, again hopping the median and driving the wrong way on Folsom Street. The rider’s last known location was in the area of the Frasier Meadows neighborhood. He is described as being a white male between the ages of 14 and 22 and was last seen wearing a black dirt bike helmet, black sweatshirt, a black backpack with two vertical white stripes on the rear, blue jeans with black van type shoes with brown soles. His electric dirt bike is mostly black with purple pegs. He had red accents on the top cap portion on his front forks and his seat had what looked to be patches or stickers on the top side of the seat. His rear brake light/reflector was at the very end of his fender. The rider is facing charges of reckless driving and felony eluding and more are possible. If you have any information about his identity please contact Traffic Officer Johnson at [email protected] 303-441-3315 regarding case 26-1223 Electric micromobility — like e-bikes, e-scooters and e-skateboards — are an important part of Boulder’s transportation network, helping connect people to places and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. You’d think it wouldn’t be that hard to find someone swinging a big red machete at people and yet after officers received such a call on Tuesday, the suspect had run from the scene. Enter……Air 1. From their eyes in the sky, our Drone Team spotted the suspect, dressed not unlike a 90s era Backstreet Boy, which we mention because it made him slightly easier to spot among a sea of beautifully changing Fall leaves. (See video) Air 1 notified the responding Patrol officers that the suspect was running through the backyards of a nearby apartment complex. As Air 1 flew above, the suspect stole a bicycle and rode off into the sunset. He didn’t get very far though thanks to Air 1’s watchful eyes. Officers Castro, Burton and Deblasi were able to corner the suspect near a culvert at 30th and Mapleton streets and safely take him into custody without injury to anyone. He was booked into the Boulder County jail on charges of felony menacing, theft and obstructing a peace officer. Officer Diblasi was also able to return the stolen bike to its rightful owner a few minutes later. As in every criminal case, these charges are an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty. We’re thankful this ended without anyone getting hurt and proud that we can use the latest technology and honed police skills to keep our community safe.

It was just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday when the first call came in saying a man was driving recklessly and yelling at people near 20thand Broadway. It only got worse. Another call came in saying the driver had struck another car with his vehicle and left the scene. A caller said the driver could be seen drinking from a beer bottle while driving. As officers searched the area, a call came in saying the car was on the bike path and had almost hit a cyclist. Thankfully Officer Baddley spotted the vehicle a short time later on Baseline Road and coordinated with Officer West to safely stop the driver from going anywhere else. Officers could smell alcohol on the driver, and his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. He was arrested and booked into the jail on two misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence, misdemeanor hit and run, misdemeanor reckless driving, resisting arrest, failure to present evidence of insurance, and felony vehicular eluding. As in every criminal case, suspects are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty. We’re glad this incident didn’t have a worse outcome as it easily could have. There’s no excuse to drive impaired. You risk the lives of yourself and everyone around you. Our officers have stepped up their efforts to find impaired drivers and have made more DUI arrests so far this year than previous years due to a variety of factors. It’s sad that one of those factors is that some people think it’s okay to drink and drive. It. Is. Not. We will find and arrest you.
