The race for Carson Hocevar could have been lost during the big one but teamwork saved the day. Tyler Green spotted him through the wreck and then Hocevar recognized that a tire was going down and his pit crew reacted quickly and got his tires replaced without losing a lap.

Extremely heads up move from Chase Elliott choosing to pit on his own when he saw a car in front of him lose a wheel. Within seconds of seeing the wheel he made a calculation in his head that it would likely be an advantage to pit and decided to enter pit lane on his own.

My guess is that the Trackhouse cars went in the grass in order to pick up some debris to help make weight but I'm not sure why it suddenly became a big deal or why they were singled out as drivers do it often and they weren't the only ones that did it at Gateway. An example:

Fascinating to see the responses to this because AI has been in use for strategy decisions in NASCAR for almost a decade but maybe not publicized well enough. Newman won Phoenix in 2017 thanks in part to AI strategy and here is Eric Warren showing some of those tools in 2019.
