Pre-flight static fire of my new N motor to launch the camera pod! A little more nozzle erosion than expected, so it's not as efficient as the sim, but it's good enough! I cast 2 identical N motors, and the other will be the first flight of my Risky Batman propellant formula 🚀

Burn #2 of Risky Batman - same internal geometry as the first motor with a lower amount of burn suppressant and a more balanced mix of 90 vs 400 micron ammonium perchlorate. Next up, higher pressures, non-eroding nozzles, and longer motors!

Supersonic Lensing! These lensing effects are very hard to see without motion, and video compression makes it even harder. I really wanna capture more of them soon!

Fun little side project, I mounted a 360 camera on top of a 2 stage rocket. Got to Mach 1.2 without killing the camera, not too bad!

Is it cheaper to make your own rocket motors vs buying commercial reloads?

The AGARD-B model is the gold standard for wind tunnel calibration, and it’s had the same shape since the ’60s. I don’t have a wind tunnel (yet), but I do like verifying my CFD data.

Large solid rocket motors are surprisingly hard to light. They need ignition systems that can deliver lots of heat and pressure quickly, and head-end ignition solves that.

I’m 90% sure this will work, maybe 85%. There’s a solid 70% chance it’s perfect. I’m like 60% sure of that… Full video:

Footage and data from the static fire, the motor ended up being an O2700! I'll need to make several more motors before we attempt the Q class motors for the spaceshot, but this is a great first step. Now it's time to make some videos about this whole process :)

Telemetry Overlay is what I use to show data in my videos - seeing real data in conjunction with the test footage helps me understand my projects better, and it’s WAY better than showing a static graph. Thanks to them for sponsoring this post! Learn more:
