New footage obtained by B’Tselem uncovers the moments when the Abu Haikal family was shot. Seven-month-old Sam Abu Haikal was killed in the shooting, and both his parents were injured. The footage clearly shows that the Israeli soldier fired at the car as it was slowing to a stop. The car was far from the soldiers and posed no danger to them whatsoever. Moments later, in another video obtained by B’Tselem, seven-month-old Sam’s father, Fahed, is seen just after his son was shot. Fahed is holding baby Sam in his arms, trying to stop the bleeding from his head with his hands, while Sam’s mother, Daniyah, who was also injured by the gunfire while holding her son, is seen sitting on the ground, next to the car. Last Friday, 5 June, an Israeli soldier fired at a Palestinian family driving home from a family visit, as they sat in their car in the Tel Rumeidah neighborhood in Hebron. The family was shot as the car was slowing to a stop at the soldier’s command. Sam, a seven‑month‑old baby who was in his mother’s arms in the back seat, was struck in the head and pronounced dead shortly afterward. Sam’s parents were also injured by the gunfire; his mother is still in the hospital. After the shooting, the soldier who fired and another soldier who was with him left the scene without checking the car or offering any assistance to the critically wounded baby or to his mother. In the past two and a half years, Israel has killed tens of thousands of children in Gaza and the West Bank. The immunity it gets from the international community has led to a reality where, under Israeli rule, Palestinian lives are entirely disposable – even a seven‑month‑old baby.

Systematic violence and human rights violations are not exceptions to Israel's apartheid regime and occupation, they are integral to it. Israel is using unbridled violence in all the territories under its control, as well as in Lebanon and Iran. Since October 2023, this policy has escalated: In Gaza: tens of thousands of Palestinians killed, millions forcibly displaced, entire neighborhoods and infrastructure systematically destroyed In the West Bank: about 1,082 Palestinians killed, including 239 children and teenagers; 61 communities with at least 4,161 members forcibly displaced and another 15 partially so, with at least 454 members displaced In Israeli prisons: thousands of Palestinians subjected to systemic torture, violence and humiliation, in inhumane conditions Under Israel's apartheid regime, Palestinian lives are treated as expendable and millions across the Middle East are at risk.

Israel has been working to oust Palestinians from the South Hebron Hills for many years. Efforts intensified after October 2023, and since then, hundreds of organized attacks against local Palestinian residents and shepherds have been recorded. In January 2026 alone, more than 200 attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians were documented in villages in the area. Over the course of this time, settlers invaded Palestinian-owned farmland and killed two local residents. Settler militias operate as an informal arm of the state: armed with military-issued weapons and riding ATVs and horses, they invade communities under the protection of military forces, who either turn a blind eye to the violence or take an active part in it. The violence in the South Hebron Hills is part of the policy of ethnic cleansing that Israel is implementing throughout the West Bank. To the full report >>

For the first time since the 1967 occupation, Israel is expelling an entire Palestinian neighborhood in Jerusalem. The Silwan area, located near the "Holy Basin," the Temple Mount, and al-Aqsa Mosque, is home to many archaeological and historical sites of exceptional significance. As of April 2026, approximately 1,800 residents in Silwan are under threat of expulsion, after hundreds have already been uprooted and left homeless in the past two years. In Baten al-Hawa alone, 33 families have already been expelled, and 53 additional families, including 130 children, face a similar fate. In al-Bustan, Israel has already demolished 48 homes and plans to demolish the homes of 123 more families, which will lead to the expulsion of approximately 1,450 people. The expulsion in Silwan is part of a policy of ethnic cleansing throughout the entire West Bank. Link to the full article >>

Israel has turned its prisons into a network of torture camps for Palestinians. Prisoners are subjected to severe violence, deliberate humiliation, starvation, sleep deprivation, denial of medical care and abuse in everyfacility they are held in. Some have also been severely sexually assaulted. Since October 2023, at least 84 Palestinians have died in these torture camps. The policymakers, and primarily Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir, brag in TV puff pieces and on social media about what is happening in these torture camps. Today, we published “Living Hell”, a report on the situation of Palestinians in Israeli custody. It is based on the testimonies of Palestinians released in recent months, along with research, reports, news updates and Israel Prison Service figures, and continues our previous report on the issue, “Welcome to Hell”, from August 2024. Systematic, deliberate abuse continues to define Israel’s policy toward Palestinian prisoners in its custody, and is another feature of the Israeli regime’s coordinated onslaught on the Palestinian people. Israeli lawmakers opened bottles of champagne last night (Monday, March 30), to celebrate the introduction of the death penalty for Palestinians into Israeli law. Since October 2023, Israel has killed at least 72,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and at least 1,050 in the West Bank. During this time, more than 80 Palestinian have died in Israeli prisons, which have become a network of torture camps where inmates are subjected to continuous abuse and violence. The Death Penalty Law is another tool Israel is using to kill Palestinians.

The ethnic cleansing in East Jerusalem is happening now! Large Israeli forces entered the Silwan neighborhood today, 25 March, to evict 11 Palestinian families from their homes. Amidst the ongoing illegal and lethal Israeli-American offensive against Iran, Israel is expanding its ethnic cleansing in East Jerusalem, throwing Palestinian families into the streets. The eviction of 11 families, marks the continuation of a massive displacement wave: approximately 2,200 people in Silwan are facing an imminent threat of forced displacement, 150 families (1,500 individuals) in al-Bustan and 90 families (700 individuals) in Baten al-Hawa. This is the reality of systematic, institutionalized violence and a clear manifestation of an Israeli policy aimed at engineering the demographic balance and "Judaizing" the neighborhood by exploiting discriminatory laws. These measures are designed to expand Israeli presence and control over one of the most politically and religiously sensitive areas in the region, serving as a crucial component of the broader ethnic cleansing currently unfolding across the West Bank.

“I nodded off and was woken by my daughter’s hysterical crying. When I picked her up, I discovered rats had gnawed at her foot while she slept. I was so afraid, I felt my soul leave my body. I started screaming and crying, grabbed her and ran together with my husband between medical service points to find medicine or disinfectants against infection and poisoning. But the military doesn’t even allow medicine and disinfectants into Gaza.” Rana Qarmut, 22, describes the helplessness of parents in displacement camps trying to protect their children from the rodent infestation in Gaza. Israel’s systematic destruction of the water and sewage infrastructure have turned these camps into a public health crisis: the extreme levels of garbage and open sewage flowing between the tents are an ideal breeding ground for rodents and pests. According to Save the Children figures from April 2026, the tents in more than 80% of displacement camps have rats, fleas and ticks inside regularly. As summer temperatures rise, the combination of pollution, unhygienic conditions and a shattered healthcare system is leading to the spread of severe skin and intestinal diseases, and turning simple injuries into life-threatening conditions. By blocking the entry of basic necessities for survival, including medicines and pesticides, Israel is perpetuating an environment in Gaza that is unfit for human habitation, deliberately leaving millions of displaced people exposed to epidemics. The genocide in Gaza continues. To read the full testimonies >>

Israel has granted a perpetrator of war crimes in Gaza the honor of lighting a ceremonial torch on Independence Day. By choosing Rabbi Avraham Zarbiv to represent “the spirit of the nation,” Israel is making genocide part of its official national ethos. “There’s nothing for them to go back to in Rafah and Jabalya… Tens of thousands of families have no documents, childhood photos, ID cards, homes. Nothing.” This boast was made by Rabbi Avraham Zarbiv, an Israeli Rabbi who perpetrated war crimes who has been chosen to light a torch at Israel’s Independence Day ceremony, today, April 21. This is one of the highest accolades in the country, granted to “exemplary citizens” who represent “the spirit of the nation.” Rabbi Zarbiv served about 500 days as a military reservist in Gaza over the last two and a half years. As a bulldozer operator during the genocide, he carried out war crimes of which he has openly boasted in videos he filmed, media interviews and public talks. Bestowing one of the highest civilian honors in Israel on a citizen who committed war crimes illustrates how deeply the dehumanization of Palestinians has taken root in the Israeli mainstream. It is yet another terrifying signal that genocide has officially become part of the national ethos. Rabbi Avraham Zarbiv is a regional rabbinical court judge for the settlement of Ariel, and head the pre-military academy in the settlement of Beit El that educates hundreds of Israeli youth. Choosing him as an “exemplary citizen” represents a state-level endorsement of the complete de-humanization of Palestinians, systematic destruction of Palestinian life and the governing logic of annihilation and ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Zarbiv is not ashamed of his actions, neither, clearly is the State of Israel. We’vecompiled some documentation here to mark the occasion.

Thousands of Israelis celebrated Independence Day on the ruins of Ras ‘Ein al-‘Auja, the largest Palestinian community in the Jordan Valley, which the military expelled just months ago with the help of settler militias. The lives of the 125 families in the community – 625 people, 333 of them minors – were violently upended by the Israeli regime. Since October 2023, Israel has expelled 59 entire Palestinian communities and partially expelled 16 more: all in all, 4,510 people driven out of their homes to promote Israel’s policy of ethnic cleansing in the West Bank. This is the video posted by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, after a PR visit to Ofer Prison, where Israel is holding Palestinian prisoners. Ofer is part of Israel’s network of torture camps for Palestinian prisoners. During the visit, Ben Gvir was given a showcase of violence and humiliation and took the opportunity to threaten handcuffed prisoners with the death penalty. Palestinian prisoners are subjected to extreme violence, deliberate humiliation, starvation, sleep deprivation, denial of medical treatment and abuse in every facility where they are held. As of February 2026, 9,243 Palestinians are being held in Israeli prisons, about half of them under administrative detention or under the Unlawful Combatants Law – that is, without due process and with no opportunity to defend themselves against the allegations against them. Since October 2023, at least 84 Palestinians have died in Israeli custody as a result of torture and denial of medical treatment. The death penalty law that the Israeli government is currently advancing will be another tool in Israel’s hands to kill Palestinians.
