New footage obtained by B’Tselem uncovers the moments when the Abu Haikal family was shot. Seven-month-old Sam Abu Haikal was killed in the shooting, and both his parents were injured. The footage clearly shows that the Israeli soldier fired at the car as it was slowing to a stop. The car was far from the soldiers and posed no danger to them whatsoever. Moments later, in another video obtained by B’Tselem, seven-month-old Sam’s father, Fahed, is seen just after his son was shot. Fahed is holding baby Sam in his arms, trying to stop the bleeding from his head with his hands, while Sam’s mother, Daniyah, who was also injured by the gunfire while holding her son, is seen sitting on the ground, next to the car. Last Friday, 5 June, an Israeli soldier fired at a Palestinian family driving home from a family visit, as they sat in their car in the Tel Rumeidah neighborhood in Hebron. The family was shot as the car was slowing to a stop at the soldier’s command. Sam, a seven‑month‑old baby who was in his mother’s arms in the back seat, was struck in the head and pronounced dead shortly afterward. Sam’s parents were also injured by the gunfire; his mother is still in the hospital. After the shooting, the soldier who fired and another soldier who was with him left the scene without checking the car or offering any assistance to the critically wounded baby or to his mother. In the past two and a half years, Israel has killed tens of thousands of children in Gaza and the West Bank. The immunity it gets from the international community has led to a reality where, under Israeli rule, Palestinian lives are entirely disposable – even a seven‑month‑old baby.

“Israel is trying to make life in the West Bank unlivable for Palestinians.” In an interview with Isa Soares for CNN, B’Tselem Executive Director Yuli Novak said: “The extensive killing is the most extreme manifestation of a policy inflicting widespread harm, and no onedemands accountability from Israel for its actions.” From October 2023 through July 27, 2026, Israel killed 1,100 Palestinians in the West Bank. Of those, 37 were killed by Israeli settlers.

Under the Israeli regime, no Palestinian is safe, while any Israeli who harms them enjoys close to full impunity. The ʿAsʿus family was about to sit down for dinner when they heard gunfire from the street. Everyone rushed to take cover. For the first time since the 1967 occupation, Israel is expelling an entire Palestinian neighborhood in Jerusalem. The Silwan area, located near the "Holy Basin," the Temple Mount, and al-Aqsa Mosque, is home to many archaeological and historical sites of exceptional significance. As of April 2026, approximately 1,800 residents in Silwan are under threat of expulsion, after hundreds have already been uprooted and left homeless in the past two years. In Baten al-Hawa alone, 33 families have already been expelled, and 53 additional families, including 130 children, face a similar fate. In al-Bustan, Israel has already demolished 48 homes and plans to demolish the homes of 123 more families, which will lead to the expulsion of approximately 1,450 people. The expulsion in Silwan is part of a policy of ethnic cleansing throughout the entire West Bank. Link to the full article >>

Israel has turned its prisons into a network of torture camps for Palestinians. Prisoners are subjected to severe violence, deliberate humiliation, starvation, sleep deprivation, denial of medical care and abuse in everyfacility they are held in. Some have also been severely sexually assaulted. Since October 2023, at least 84 Palestinians have died in these torture camps. The policymakers, and primarily Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir, brag in TV puff pieces and on social media about what is happening in these torture camps. Today, we published “Living Hell”, a report on the situation of Palestinians in Israeli custody. It is based on the testimonies of Palestinians released in recent months, along with research, reports, news updates and Israel Prison Service figures, and continues our previous report on the issue, “Welcome to Hell”, from August 2024. Systematic, deliberate abuse continues to define Israel’s policy toward Palestinian prisoners in its custody, and is another feature of the Israeli regime’s coordinated onslaught on the Palestinian people. Israel has been working to oust Palestinians from the South Hebron Hills for many years. Efforts intensified after October 2023, and since then, hundreds of organized attacks against local Palestinian residents and shepherds have been recorded. In January 2026 alone, more than 200 attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians were documented in villages in the area. Over the course of this time, settlers invaded Palestinian-owned farmland and killed two local residents. Settler militias operate as an informal arm of the state: armed with military-issued weapons and riding ATVs and horses, they invade communities under the protection of military forces, who either turn a blind eye to the violence or take an active part in it. The violence in the South Hebron Hills is part of the policy of ethnic cleansing that Israel is implementing throughout the West Bank. To the full report >>

Israeli lawmakers opened bottles of champagne last night (Monday, March 30), to celebrate the introduction of the death penalty for Palestinians into Israeli law. Since October 2023, Israel has killed at least 72,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and at least 1,050 in the West Bank. During this time, more than 80 Palestinian have died in Israeli prisons, which have become a network of torture camps where inmates are subjected to continuous abuse and violence. The Death Penalty Law is another tool Israel is using to kill Palestinians.

The food crisis in the Gaza Strip is worsening, with the World Central Kitchen shutting down some of its community kitchens. Throughout the ongoing genocide, these kitchens, along with local initiatives, became the only reliable source of food for hundreds of thousands of people. Now only three WCK kitchens remain, together serving about 200,000 hot meals a day – down from more than 1.5 million until recently. Since October 2023, Israel has restricted the entry of food into Gaza while systematically destroying the local infrastructure needed to produce and distribute it. The result has been severe shortages, forcing hundreds of thousands of people into near-total dependence on humanitarian aid. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, by October 2025, 455 people, including 151 children, had died from starvation and malnutrition. For many families, these community kitchens were the only way to secure a single meal a day. Now, even that fragile lifeline is disappearing. In March 2025, Israel imposed a total siege on Gaza for more than two months, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid. It later imposed additional restrictions on the work of humanitarian organizations, prompting dozens of aid agencies to warn that they would be unable to continue operating. As a result, in May 2026, the World Central Kitchen began scaling back its operations. The ongoing hunger crisis in Gaza is the result of deliberate Israeli policy. Humanitarian aid, dependent on Israel's changing decisions and interests, cannot replace a functioning system for producing and distributing food. As long as Israel continues to restrict the entry of food, destroy essential infrastructure, and obstruct humanitarian organizations, millions of people will remain trapped in a reality of hunger, deprivation, and dependence. The ethnic cleansing in East Jerusalem is happening now! Large Israeli forces entered the Silwan neighborhood today, 25 March, to evict 11 Palestinian families from their homes. Amidst the ongoing illegal and lethal Israeli-American offensive against Iran, Israel is expanding its ethnic cleansing in East Jerusalem, throwing Palestinian families into the streets. The eviction of 11 families, marks the continuation of a massive displacement wave: approximately 2,200 people in Silwan are facing an imminent threat of forced displacement, 150 families (1,500 individuals) in al-Bustan and 90 families (700 individuals) in Baten al-Hawa. This is the reality of systematic, institutionalized violence and a clear manifestation of an Israeli policy aimed at engineering the demographic balance and "Judaizing" the neighborhood by exploiting discriminatory laws. These measures are designed to expand Israeli presence and control over one of the most politically and religiously sensitive areas in the region, serving as a crucial component of the broader ethnic cleansing currently unfolding across the West Bank.

A full year has passed since settler Yinon Levi, an Israeli settler, shot and killed Awdah al-Hathaleen, a resident of Um al-Kheir, in South Hebron Hills. Awdah’s filmed his own killing. Levi was released from custody after one night, and was then documented in the vicinity of Um al-Kheir. He has not been indicted. Awdah was 31 years old at the time of his death. He was a father of three young children, an educator, a prominent peace activist, and one of the leaders of the residents of Masafer Yatta’s non-violent struggle for the right to remain on their land. From October 2023 to 27 July 2026 Israel killed at least 1,100 Palestinians in the West Bank. 37 were killed by settler militias. Since October 2023, not a single indictment has been filed against an Israeli for the killing of Palestinians in the West Bank. Under Israeli apartheid, Palestinians are left exposed to violence, while Israelis who harm them enjoy near-total impunity.

Systematic violence and human rights violations are not exceptions to Israel's apartheid regime and occupation, they are integral to it. Israel is using unbridled violence in all the territories under its control, as well as in Lebanon and Iran. Since October 2023, this policy has escalated: In Gaza: tens of thousands of Palestinians killed, millions forcibly displaced, entire neighborhoods and infrastructure systematically destroyed In the West Bank: about 1,082 Palestinians killed, including 239 children and teenagers; 61 communities with at least 4,161 members forcibly displaced and another 15 partially so, with at least 454 members displaced In Israeli prisons: thousands of Palestinians subjected to systemic torture, violence and humiliation, in inhumane conditions Under Israel's apartheid regime, Palestinian lives are treated as expendable and millions across the Middle East are at risk.

Israel has granted a perpetrator of war crimes in Gaza the honor of lighting a ceremonial torch on Independence Day. By choosing Rabbi Avraham Zarbiv to represent “the spirit of the nation,” Israel is making genocide part of its official national ethos. “There’s nothing for them to go back to in Rafah and Jabalya… Tens of thousands of families have no documents, childhood photos, ID cards, homes. Nothing.” This boast was made by Rabbi Avraham Zarbiv, an Israeli Rabbi who perpetrated war crimes who has been chosen to light a torch at Israel’s Independence Day ceremony, today, April 21. This is one of the highest accolades in the country, granted to “exemplary citizens” who represent “the spirit of the nation.” Rabbi Zarbiv served about 500 days as a military reservist in Gaza over the last two and a half years. As a bulldozer operator during the genocide, he carried out war crimes of which he has openly boasted in videos he filmed, media interviews and public talks. Bestowing one of the highest civilian honors in Israel on a citizen who committed war crimes illustrates how deeply the dehumanization of Palestinians has taken root in the Israeli mainstream. It is yet another terrifying signal that genocide has officially become part of the national ethos. Rabbi Avraham Zarbiv is a regional rabbinical court judge for the settlement of Ariel, and head the pre-military academy in the settlement of Beit El that educates hundreds of Israeli youth. Choosing him as an “exemplary citizen” represents a state-level endorsement of the complete de-humanization of Palestinians, systematic destruction of Palestinian life and the governing logic of annihilation and ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Zarbiv is not ashamed of his actions, neither, clearly is the State of Israel. We’vecompiled some documentation here to mark the occasion.
