Wow, they sure changed the way you do things since I was in shop class.

After yesterday's post about Windy, I checked my cameras &amp; see a black bear came through camp. It probably spooked Windy &amp; she ran through the bush &amp; impaled herself with a branch. Who knows, I’ll check on her again soon.

At camp, you never walk into a shed before checking it out first. A cool dirt floor with no predators around makes it a great place to take a snooze.

Windy, the feral mare, has avoided predators like this cougar wandering through her area for 28yrs. This cat is only 50yds from her waterer but for a cougar, deer are much easier prey.

Taken June 12th, you can see Windy, the feral mare, shedding her winter coat &amp; how thick &amp; long her winter coat is. In 2 wks she’ll have her short smooth haired coat.

Back at camp &amp; the last sign of Windy, the feral mare, on camera was early Nov. It’s snowed since &amp; there are no tracks whatsoever. I’ve looked for over 2hrs &amp; I’m starting to fear the worst. I’ll keep looking.

A non verbal call to her yearling is done by just raising her tail which is a signal to be alert for possible danger. Her yearling responds quickly

Imagine it. You’re hiking &amp; see 3 cubs run ahead. The sow charges out of the bush to see what chased her cubs. You’re standing there … in the wrong place at the wrong time. (footage is from my trail cam not from in person)

With everything going on in the world, here’s a young bull moose chewing on a piece of wood.

Nothing but problems with this camera. Called customer service &amp; was told it’s a known problem &amp; my warranty‘a up so buy a new one. I actually figured out how to reset it myself!

When Windy, the feral mare, wants to go somewhere she goes through the trees not around them. (Sound way up)

I’m always amazed how big animals like moose can blend into their surroundings if they don’t move. Even if it’s just behind a few evergreens.

When that towing job doesn’t go as expected

I finally found Windy the feral mare after 4 more hrs of searching!! Fricken hell, she was in the thick bush &amp; finally answered me! She’s not limping anymore which is GREAT to see! You can see how skittish she is when I backed into a tree branch &amp; broke it. Ready to rumble!

Black bear encounter with Windy the feral mare! Leading us back to camp she stopped, looked &amp; wouldn’t go any further but wouldn’t leave us. You can hear her snorting &amp; when I looked into the thick bush, I saw a black bear walking away. Always trust horse sense!!

This was taken a few yrs ago &amp; shows how Windy, the feral mare, greets me if I haven’t visited for a while. This yr she’s had a really easy winter &amp; I’ll check in on her in less than 2 wks.

I found Windy, the feral mare, in the thick stuff staying cool from the hot weather. She came to my call, ate her treats &amp; went back in all in less than 5 min.

I found Windy this afternoon &amp; gave her a bucket of treats &amp; there’s hay for her nearby. Happy feral mare!

Yesterday I found Windy, the feral mare, &amp; brought her some hay &amp; treats. Snow is up to 14” deep in spots &amp; damn, it takes some effort to pull that toboggan uphill. She’s a happy horse!

Happy New Year from me &amp; Windy, the feral mare. I spent the day with her yesterday &amp; pulled in 2 bales of hay &amp; gave her some treats. She’s a happy healthy horse!!

I went to check on Windy, the feral mare, today &amp; she’s doing great. Snow has melted &amp; exposed a lot of grass but I pulled a bale of hay out for her anyway. Happy horse!

Yesterday was a rainy trip to camp to fix Windy’s waterer. It’s the feral mare’s only source of water once the snow is gone. The heat tape failed &amp; the pipe was frozen down 5’. Got it thawed &amp; working.

Doing a little fishing &amp; these 2 loons &amp; their 2 loonlets passed by. Such beautiful birds. Sound on.

A memory of Windy, Blackie &amp; Goldie the last of the original 6 horses. They’ve been here 26yrs &amp; I call them feral because they fend for themselves &amp; hardly see any people Windy’s the last one after I found the others with broken legs. She sees other horses on an adjacent ranch
