Back at camp & the last sign of Windy, the feral mare, on camera was early Nov. It’s snowed since & there are no tracks whatsoever. I’ve looked for over 2hrs & I’m starting to fear the worst. I’ll keep looking.

As I said yesterday, I was getting worried about Windy, the feral mare, since it’s been -35C for almost a week & I’ve looked for her twice the last 2 days & couldn’t find her. FINALLY she heard me calling & came.

Black bear encounter with Windy the feral mare! Leading us back to camp she stopped, looked & wouldn’t go any further but wouldn’t leave us. You can hear her snorting & when I looked into the thick bush, I saw a black bear walking away. Always trust horse sense!!

Yesterday I found Windy, the feral mare, & brought her some hay & treats. Snow is up to 14” deep in spots & damn, it takes some effort to pull that toboggan uphill. She’s a happy horse!

I went to check on Windy, the feral mare, today & she’s doing great. Snow has melted & exposed a lot of grass but I pulled a bale of hay out for her anyway. Happy horse!

I finally saw Windy, the big feral mare, out in the open & pulled her in a bale of hay. She trusts me but not that bad black toboggan & she snorted up a storm. Life’s been easier on her this year because the snow’s not too deep to paw for grass. I’m sure she’ll enjoy this hay

Yesterday was a rainy trip to camp to fix Windy’s waterer. It’s the feral mare’s only source of water once the snow is gone. The heat tape failed & the pipe was frozen down 5’. Got it thawed & working.
