Last night at the Toronto Blue Jays game, 97-year-old Holocaust survivor Irene Kurtz threw the first pitch. She also shared a heartwarming moment with Spencer Horwitz, a Jewish first and second baseman for the Blue Jays and Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic. An inspiring moment celebrating resilience and community, both on and off the field.

Last night, more than 250 community members gathered in Toronto for an engaging evening with NHL star and proud Jewish Canadian, Zach Hyman. In conversation with renowned sports journalist Elliotte Friedman, Hyman shared his remarkable hockey journey, the challenges he has overcome and the role his Jewish identity has played in shaping his resilience, both on and off the ice. Speaking candidly about the rise of antisemitism, especially on social media, Hyman’s words resonated deeply across generations, reminding us of the importance of strength, unity and standing up against hate. Thank you to Zach Hyman, Elliotte Friedman and everyone who joined us for this inspiring event.

Over the weekend, we saw anti-Israel demonstrations at several malls across Canada. Protesters attempted to intimidate shoppers and workers, including chanting antisemitic slogans. Surely, there must be consequences for such outrageous behaviour. It is imperative for Canada’s leaders to speak out and condemn these incidents.
