This morning, Captain Paul Watson was arrested in Nuuk, Greenland by Danish federal police, who boarded the M/Y John Paul DeJoria as soon as it docked. The crew had stopped to refuel while en route to the Northwest Passage as part of #OpKangeiMaru, our campaign aimed at intercepting Japanโs newly-built factory ship, the Kangei Maru, in the North Pacific. It is believed that this arrest is connected to a previous Red Notice issued for Watsonโs anti-whaling activities in the Antarctic. This development comes as a surprise since the Foundationโs lawyers had reported that the Red Notice had been withdrawn. However, it appears that Japan had made the notice confidential to facilitate Paulโs travel for the purpose of making an arrest. Although Japan has operated in violation of the ICJ ruling for several years, they ceased Antarctic high-seas whaling in 2016 and now only hunt whales within their territorial waters. CPWF suspects that Japan intends to resume high-seas whaling in the Southern Ocean and North Pacific by 2025, and believes the reactivation of the Red Notice against Captain Watson is politically motivated, coinciding with the launch of the new factory ship. Paul is currently in custody, and it is unclear if Denmark will extradite him to Japan. We need Paul released immediately! We urge the Danish government to release Paul and reject this politically motivated request. #FREEPAULWATSON

๐จ BREAKING NEWS: DENMARK EXTENDS PAUL WATSON'S DETENTION UNTIL OCTOBER 2ND ๐จ Paul will remain in custody until October 2nd as the court seeks more evidence. Our lawyer is challenging this decision, arguing that the conditions for his detention arenโt met due to a lack of concrete evidence and the nature of the alleged crime. Under Japanese and Greenlandic law, mere charges arenโt enoughโthere must be actual evidence. While the Japanese were allowed to present their version of events through video evidence, our footage was still not permitted in the proceedings. The lawyer is also emphasizing that the incidentโs severity should be carefully considered, especially since the stink bomb caused no harm. CAPTAIN PAUL WATSON TO RETURN THIS YEAR TO THE SOUTHERN OCEAN TO STOP THE RETURN OF THE JAPANESE WHALING FLEET Japan has declared war on the whales of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. The have completed the construction of the 9, 300 ton, 112 meters long factory ship Kangei Maru. There is only one purpose for such a huge fast long range whaling processing ship and that is to hunt and kill whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. The Captain Paul Watson Foundation and Neptuneโs Pirates have secured a fast long range ship that can allow us to aggressively intervene. Captain Watson will lead the campaign with a courageous crew of veteran Southern Ocean anti-whaling activists. โThe Japanese whalers are planning to target endangered Fin whales. We intend to stop them,โ says Captain Watson. In an absurd statement Kyodo Senpaku President Hideki Tokoro told a press conference in the western port city of Shimonoseki. โItโs important to protect marine resources, and we are the ones responsible for that, I believe that continuing (whaling) will benefit both Japan and the world.โ Protecting whales by killing whales is illogical. It is also illegal. There is a global moratorium on commercial whaling, Fin whales are endangered, and it is unlawful to kill whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.
