Welcome to my little chapel! I moved from the archbishop’s residence about four months ago to a parish, and I’m privileged to have my own oratory here. Many of you have “prayer corners” – what a beautiful idea! – and this chapel is sort of my “prayer corner.” For the next week or so, I’d like to share with you some of the sacred spots in the chapel in my home. This is the day we enter the conclave and I’m about to go into the Domus Sanctae Marthae, named after St. Martha, who took care of hospitality for Jesus. We leave here and go over to the Sistine Chapel every day for prayers and voting, but this is where we reside. I won’t be able to talk to you until you see the white smoke. Keep us in your prayers! I hope you'll forgive my being all over the place, but today I'm in Lourdes! We just left Sunday Mass and there had to be at least 10,000 pilgrims. Wherever we're at, Sunday Mass is so important. The best thing we can do for our spiritual life is Sunday Mass! The Good Newsroom

Catholics always have statues in our chapels and churches. I’m very fond of the wood carving of St. Paul that I’d like to share with you today on the feast of St. Barnabas, a disciple of Paul. We can’t live the kind of life Jesus wants for us by ourselves! We need Him and the help of others. The Good Newsroom

Here’s an image of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. You’ve often heard me speak about the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, especially during this month of June dedicated to Him, and especially because today is the feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus! This icon is dear to me. The Good Newsroom

I don’t want to confuse you here, but I’m still in Rome! In fact, I’m at the top of Vatican City, where there’s a magnificent grotto to Our Lady of Lourdes. I’m leaving for the real Lourdes soon! Wherever we are, we have our Blessed Mother near us, who keeps us close to Jesus. The Good Newsroom

“Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in Thee.” You’ve heard me say before that’s one of my favorite prayers. I say it when I get up in the morning, and He never lets me down. I bring that up because it’s June 1stand we’re starting the month of the Sacred Heart. The Good Newsroom

I’m going to start something new the next couple of weeks: “Worth Recovering!” In other words, devotions, practices, and some of the essentials of Catholic life that we’ve lost track of over the last decades. Let’s start with one of the basics: the Sign of the Cross. The Good Newsroom

I’m about to enter the Paul VI Audience Hall, right next to St. Peter’s Basilica. This is where we Cardinals are meeting in these days until we go into conclave. Thanks for staying in touch during these very important days in the life of Holy Mother Church. The Good Newsroom

How was your Sunday Mass? I hope it was especially festive, because it happened to be the feast of Corpus Christi, the feast of the body and blood of Christ. One of the customs is the Corpus Christi procession, and here in New York many of our parishes process in the streets. We’re constantly in procession – we are carrying Him! The Good Newsroom

I hope you had a great Pentecost Sunday! The Monday after Pentecost is the feast of Mary, Mother of the Church. Why? Because the apostles asked her to join them in prayer after the Ascension to ask for the gift of the Holy Spirit. She was there at the birth of the Church! The Good Newsroom

Genuflecting used to mark us Catholics — in fact, sometimes we were called “knee-benders,” because we would genuflect when we entered Church! Why? We look to the tabernacle, we recognize that our Lord is really and truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament, and we let our right knee touch the ground in an act of reverence. The Good Newsroom
