Big wins in the Texas House at 4:00AM! We passed 3 border security bills and 1 anti-COVID vaccine bill! Had the issue of COVID-19 vaccines not been used in political debate by one side that must have its way, it would have been inconceivable for government to tell employers that they may not require a shot as a condition of employment. However, during the pandemic, employers across the nation followed the government’s lead, using the government’s stated scientific justifications as cover, despite much of that science being wrong. SB 7 is a response to the unjustified imposition the government placed on employers. Governor Abbott has officially called a second special session to focus specifically on property tax relief! Because the House and Senate could not agree on the best course of action, the Governor called for legislation to cut property-tax rates solely by reducing the school district maximum compressed tax rate, and to put Texas on a pathway to eliminating school district maintenance and operations property taxes. The first bill I filed, HB 1325, was to do exactly this! Property ownership is a right in the United States, but because of property taxes we are renting our property from the government and we are being priced out of our homes. This is unacceptable! I cannot wait to pass a bill to buy down our school M&O taxes to provide lasting property-tax relief for Texas taxpayers!

We are now in our 4th special of the 88th. We just passed SB 4 and SB 3 in the Texas House! Senate Bill 4, creates a new state crime for entering Texas illegally. It authorizes Texas law enforcement to arrest and prosecute all people who cross the border illegally. An illegal border crosser can be returned to the port of entry and ordered to return to the country from which they entered. If they fail to do so, they will face even stiffer penalties. Senate Bill 3 appropriates $1.5 billion to continue building the border wall. These funds are in addition to the over $5 billion appropriated in our budget to continue funding Operation Lone Star. The bill also increases law enforcement overtime, pay including extra staffing at the Colony Ridge development in Liberty County. These bills are the strongest stand that any state has taken to protect its citizens and its sovereignty! #txlege #bordersecurity
