9 years ago today, Hannah left our home to rejoin our friend in France. We never thought she would be back with us. She arrived in the very same rucksack she left in on that day. There is a sense of completeness, having her with us again. We never stopped loving her.

LEIA IS HOME! Simon and I were settling in for a long night. No way I’d sleep with Leia missing. Suddenly at 11:31pm, the doorbell goes, I look to Simon and ran to the door (and I’m not allowed to run because of my disability), knowing it would have to be news about Leia and there she was! The neighbour down the road was about to go to bed but her cats kept growling at something outside so she opened the curtain and there Leia was. She recognised her from our whatsapp messages and the flyer, grabbed a carrier and managed to lure her inside with treats. She knew this return could not wait until the morning. You can hear me sobbing when I see it is my Leia. Thank you all for your messages. It has been a flipping awful day yet filled with so much love and support.

Well my evening took a surprising turn. Got a message in neighbourhood app, very poorly cat. Really late and cat rescue (who helped with leia) hadn’t responded yet so I raced over to bring her in. Not sure if she’s a girl as fur is so badly matted, impossible to see if there are plums. Definitely respiratory issues. She’s staying the night and they’ll come to check for a chip tomorrow morning. She’s tucking into some lovely food as we speak. I have named her Mabel for now. No idea why, name just came to me. Really sweet and docile soul.

Dear Cat Castle Clowder. The decision is made. Whilst Meggy was snuggled between us and not purring loudly as she always does, we knew it was time. We called the vet and unfortunately they don’t have the option to come to us today due to their busy schedule. We are booked in at 4pm and will bring our baby girl home for the others to say goodbye before our final goodbye at the cremation tomorrow. There are simply not enough words to say thank you. Thanks to your support, Meggy got to have and survive the surgery that gave us 2+ extra months. We have been surrounded by your outpouring of love these past few months. We will continue to spoil her today and as you can see, she’s tucking into some butter.

The international cat distribution system has finally found us. Literally walked into our house. I was away from 3:30pm to 10:30pm, came home and shut the catflap. When I came downstairs this morning I thought Pixie was on the sofa but nope! So this cat has spent the whole night in our house (the catflap was still shut this morning) without any fighting etc. Named it Sam for now. Has been placed on all the lost and found local pages and whatsapp groups and she’s in our bedroom at the moment. Moment she moved, could tell she doesn’t look great. She’s been spotted in the neighbourhood for days and has been seen in people’s gardens, crying. Don’t mind the state of the living room as we’re building a bookcase.

The hardest of decisions has been made. Tomorrow afternoon, our vet, who has been with us every step of this journey, will come to our home and help Ralph cross. Despite eating copious amounts of food, he lost 500kg in 3 weeks, down from 3kg to 2.5kg. His temperature is too low as he is too weak to regulate his body and he is showing signs of muscle weakness. Although no indicator for pain (we checked, twice), he is literally withering away and prolonging this will be completely and utterly for us, not for him and you all know by now, we would never, ever do that to our kids. He is home, on top of our warm bed and he will be so spoiled the next 24 hours. He will be hugged so much and will be told we love him until the moment he slips away in our arms Simon and I are devastated this is happening a 3rd time this year and this has been my fear for many, many years. Thank you all for being there for us and keep Ralph in your thoughts tomorrow as he starts his journey over the rainbow bridge.

We’re getting a lot of requests to give Ralph one more kiss from you so this one is for you all. He’s pushing his head into my face and as you can hear, he started purring and I’d like to think it is his way of saying thank you, to each and every one of you who walked beside him on this final path.

Meggy update: Sadly it looks that Meggy’s kidney failure is progressing. She’s drinking and peeing more, loss of appetite and vomiting. She is unsteady when she walks. Please note, at this stage in her illness, there isn’t anything any vet can do so we kindly ask to refrain from any “try this, do that” comments. We knew this moment would come. We’ve been preparing for it. If this is it, we had almost 2 extra months with her. There is absolutely the chance she perks back up a bit but we will focus on looking after our girl and love her, like we have always done. If this is her last #hedgewatch, what a beautiful day it is for it.

In loving memory of Ralph, our gentle soul, our quintessential English gentleman. Our very first video and our very last. Simon and I both held Ralph as the 1st jab, to let him sleep, was administered and whispered words of love till the end and beyond. He passed within seconds of the final jab, showing his body was done. Thank you for letting us love you. We’re so, so proud of you. Give our boys and Khaigai a headbump.
