The Italian Air Force unveiled today the Special Color made for the 85th anniversary of the 155th Gruppo (Squadron) Black Panthers of the 6th Stormo (Wing), established on Jan. 15, 1941. The aircraft, MM7054/6-100, made its first flight in the new color scheme a couple of days ago and is currently at Piacenza Air Base for the reunion of the Black Panthers. Here’s a clip shot by my friend Sabrina Zucchelli at Ghedi. I’m proud to have had the honor of being a Black Panther for a day when I took part in a training SEAD mission in a Tornado ECR in 2022.

As the U.S. Marine Corps sundowns the AV-8B Harrier II after more than four decades of service, the legendary “jump jet” enters the final chapter of its operational life. With the Harrier now retired from U.S. service, the Harrier’s story is not completely over: the type remains in service only with Italy and Spain, where the unique STOVL aircraft continues to fly. To mark the USMC Harrier Sundown, here’s a 14-minute video that brings back one of my most memorable flying experiences: my flight aboard an Italian Navy TAV-8B Harrier. You can read more about that mission here: Unmistakable and iconic, the AV-8B remains one of the most fascinating combat aircraft ever built. This is my tribute to a legend that, for a little while longer, still refuses to disappear from the skies.

As promised, here's some more Harrier footage. Here you get a rare look at the AV-8B and its replacement, the F-35B, flying together. We were joined by the Lightning II STOVL variant as we flew a left-handed racetrack pattern before heading to the ship (Cavour aircraft carrier).
