A girl in Chengdu shipped a portable air conditioner all the way to the UK so her boyfriend could survive the European heatwave. The AC cost just 1,000 yuan (US$140) in China. Shipping cost 2,000 yuan (US$280). Even so, the total was less than half the price of buying a similar unit locally in Europe. Chinese-made ACs are just that affordable.
