Chicago will continue to have a "violence problem" as long as Red states continue to have a gun problem. The endless flow of illegal guns into Chicago can be traced to Red states like Mississippi, Indiana, and Louisiana. It is up to the federal government to step up and stop interstate gun trafficking networks.

I wake up every day and go to bed every night thinking about how we can build safer communities across the city of chicago. While our work is far from complete, I’m encouraged our efforts to invest in working people has led to the dramatic declines in violence we’re experiencing in our city. I find incredible hope and strength in knowing that there are people who are collaborating with my administration to do continue doing just that.

From the 26th Street Parade to El Grito in Grant Park, Chicagoans will have the opportunity to celebrate together and celebrate safely. My administration has been preparing alongside our City partners to ensure the resources are in place to keep our residents and visitors safe as they celebrate throughout the next week.
