“I think overall…it’s hard, it’s always hard when you don’t just play against the opposing team, you play against the refs too. That’s really hard, but we’ve been in that position before. It’s really hard when a team shoots 31 FTs and you shoot just 18. And in the 4th quarter in crunch time, in crunch time… you get a lot of no-calls and calls on the other end. It’s just things we have to deal with a couple games, and it’s starting to be consistent. That’s a little concerning. Overall, I’m just really proud of us.”

Paige Bueckers on visiting a park she frequented as a kid and being surrounded by those she grew up with being back in Minny: “Yeah, I mean, that’s where I always went when life was lifing. This stretch has been tough. Losing is tough. People got stuff going on in their personal lives. And at the end of the day, life is bigger than basketball. So to go and kinda heal my inner child, go back to where I fell in love with the game, go visit that park, walk the same walks I walked as a kid. And I don’t really talk about myself often, but just to kind of reflect on the journey it’s been to get here, it was really refreshing. Just to be settled and balanced in life with all the exterior pressures and all the things that life can throw at you. So I’m very grateful to be back home and to get that experience and I was happy to do that.”

Awak Kuier set a franchise record for blocks in the win over the Fever with 7 to go along with 11 pts, 8 rebs, 4 asts, and 1 stl. She recently became Dallas' all-time leader in blocks in her 1st season back since 2023. As ferocious as she was, Kuier's all-around game/developement made her ready for this moment. Included are clips of what she's done for Dallas, as well as in Europe.

Full clip on Diggins speaking to how she makes Ogwumike aware of her greatness. Also speaks to the strength of their friendship and Ogwumike’s heavy load as WNBPA: “It’s a lot of stuff she can’t say to defend herself. It’s a lot of shit she takes on for a whole league.”

When former Sparks GM Raegan Pebley hired coach Lynne Roberts, it was a move heralded as one rooted in player development and winning now Neither has occurred. Asked Roberts if she feels her job is in jeopardy after Pebley’s exit: “Well, I don’t think we underachieved last year, and this year’s still going. We tripled our wins last year from the year before. I think for where we want to get, that’s not where we want to be. Tripling wins from one year to the next in my first year. I don’t think that’s underachieving. This year we have not hit our stride. We’ve played one game with everybody on our roster healthy. We’ve been injured all year. Hopefully we can get KP and Cam back. Our whole system is designed around KP and her unbelievable talent. I’m not even close to thinking we are underachieving at all.” Off The Record

Asked Wings HC Jose Fernandez about the team’s backside defense and if Awak Kuier could assist “Talking about minutes here, minutes there. I don’t know…Whatever minutes she gets, with her size, she can protect the basket, correct? So, I don’t know. Whatever minutes she gets..⬇️

“There needs to be respect about the fact that she had two children and hasn’t played in 20 months. She’s not where she will be in Game 4 of the season…She’s not going to come overnight and be who she was 20 months ago and we have to respect that and honor that. I do. As a coach, as an organization we do. So my grace as a coach is to know she’s working her butt off every day. You guys don’t see it. Every single day. 2 children. Not 1, 2. Not many can do that. So the respect has to come and the work. The respect has to come. This is a decorated athlete who’s done amazing things for this league, for women’s basketball, for the world. Give her some grace.” - HC Quinn on the way Skylar Diggins-Smith has been critiqued and how she deserves grace Circling Seattle Sports/Converge Media

Recently asked Coach Roberts about being a “win now” team while still developing younger talent, like Sania Feagin and Ta’Niya Latson: Essentially, the Sparks are focused on pursuing a championship and not development. “I think every team in the league wants to win now,” said Roberts. “But we also recognize we’re in LA and we’re one of the original franchises. I didn’t come to LA to rebuild or do some slow thing. I know KP [Kelsey Plum] didn’t, and Nneka [Ogwumike] didn’t. Our front office has that in mind as well in terms of getting players that will help us win now, but are also the right fit for what we’re trying to do and how we’re trying to play. I think we’ve done a good job of that. To your point about balancing with the young guys, a lot of the work in developing young players isn’t seen. It’s with our player development staff, our coaching staff; they get coached up a lot. It’s just a hard league to break into, it really is. But we believe in those guys, and we’re going to continue working. Their numbers will get called, and it’s a matter of them staying ready. They’ve done a great job at that, but they’re completely invested. Their work ethic is great, their buy-in is great, so everyone’s journey is different. Sometimes it takes a little bit to break in and sometimes it’s right away. That’s what went into it.”

Asked Skylar Diggins about Seattle’s mentality/inability to close out games ahead of the playoffs: “I promise you, I swear I'm not even being facetious. If we had these answers to these questions, you know what I'm saying? This game is tough. It's hard to win in this league. It's hard to win in this league. And obviously, yes, we're disappointed with where we are, that we're in this predicament. But Nneka has said it in the past too. It's not going to be a woe is me. Games are still going to be played. You know, we still have to come out and compete. And most importantly, you know, we have to be professional. And you know, I lacked professionalism in that last press conference too. I want to apologize to the room. Apologize to Nneka. She always comes out here, handles herself exceptionally, and I handle myself poor. And you know, I got to be a better leader when it's hard and it's hard to be a leader. But I owe you that apology in front of everybody in the room. So I just wanted to say that before we left. But yeah, obviously it's tough. We're pissed. Yeah, that's what you guys want to hear? You want to see it. This is what it is when you're passionate. We do everything passionately, and that's what it is. We don't want to fucking be in this predicament. But here we are. So we're going to continue to show up and be pros every day, be leaders by example, how we come in and prepare and come out and get ready to compete, and that's all we can do. And if we don't do that, then we don't deserve to be in the playoffs.” @OffTheRecordW | #WNBA
