In recognition of the 250-year anniversary of the founding of the United States of America as a free and independent nation, Elder Quentin L. Cook and I discussed the importance of religious liberty and its underlying significance for the restored Church of Jesus Christ. We believe in religious liberty. As the Eleventh Article of Faith reminds us, “We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.”

Jesus thinks and acts out of pure love; He yearns to bless and lift others; and He delights to do the will of God. With faith in Christ, we can pray that the Holy Spirit will effect a mighty change in us to instill these same divine motivations in our hearts and help us practice the attributes of a Christlike character.

I am deeply honored by this calling to serve as the second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But at the same time, I recognize I’m not called to be honored—but called to serve. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve at the side of President Oaks and President Eyring. It is Jesus Christ who is the head of the Church. I know that. I bear witness of it. I am more sure of it every day. I know Him, I honor Him, I pledge my life and discipleship to Him.

The Savior invites us, no matter where we are at this moment, to walk with Him (see Moses 6:34). We don’t have to achieve some minimum level of ability or spirituality before He will take an interest in us. His invitation and His hands are extended right now, and all are included.

The theme for Latter-day Saint youth this year comes from Moses 6:34, which reads in part, “And thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me.” This annual theme offers a meaningful opportunity for each of us to unite in faith across the globe to deepen our conversion to the Savior, Jesus Christ, and to walk with Him. We invite all youth, parents, and leaders to please join us for a worldwide discussion about this principle on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Jesus’ condescension, His willingness to live in this fallen world and show us the meaning of His gospel in day-to-day life, is truly an act of genuine love. As you celebrate Christmas this year, I invite you to reflect on the mortal life and mission of Jesus Christ—and His condescension to save you.

Many years ago, we recorded my grandsons Ben and Jake retelling from memory the story of Jesus Christ’s birth as found in Luke 2. What stands out to me about their version the most is the pure and simple truth of this Biblical passage. Jesus Christ was born of humble circumstances, yet lived the most important life ever lived. May we remember His glorious birth and live His teachings during this Christmas season. Merry Christmas!

After repenting and receiving forgiveness from the Lord, how do we overcome lingering feelings of guilt and shame?

In addition to being the global theme for youth in 2026, “Walk with Me” is the Savior’s invitation to each of us. He is inviting us to walk with Him on His path—the covenant path. His path is the only one that leads to eternal happiness and eternal life.

Members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are charged to be special witnesses of the name of Jesus Christ. I have pondered deeply the question of what it means to be a witness of His name. It is a wonderful privilege with a variety of meanings.

During a recent visit to Rome, Italy, in late September, I had the privilege of sharing some remarks on human dignity, moral agency, and religious pluralism at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. This panel discussion and its audience included prominent Catholic scholars and theologians. It is good to gather with fellow disciples to share what we have in common and to strengthen one another.

Reflecting on the parable of the talents in the New Testament, I believe we don’t all have to achieve at the same level nor progress on the same timetable to reap the Lord’s blessings and eventually the gift of eternal life. We simply need to be diligent with the gifts and the abilities and the opportunities the Lord has given us here and now.

I marvel at the gingerbread houses that Kathy creates to raise funds to cover medical expenses for children in need. Christmas and Christmas traditions are about giving to others. May we remember that the greatest gift ever given was the life and Atonement of the Savior, Jesus Christ. #LightTheWorld
