Met with private firefighters who say the municipality sometimes turns away their help. 🚒 After the Rosslyn tyre-factory fire, it’s clear Tshwane needs regulations that welcome private support and resources, not block it. Residents deserve a coordinated emergency response. ⚠️🧯

In my video, I break down how Tshwane’s pools remain closed since October last year. Mismanagement by the ANC government is preventing residents from across the City of Tshwane from accessing pools, which foster a healthy lifestyle and community bonds for all in Tshwane. 🏊♂️ Those with means can afford to pay for gyms with pools or have private pools in Estates. Public facilities are for those who can’t afford additional expenses. The DA’s pushing for a policy to get pools open! 💪

Smart meters help us prevent bypassed meters and illegal connections. They also protect residents from inflated accounts. Preventing water and electricity theft is key to the stability of the municipality, and the DA is committed to finding real solutions.

I’m at the Public Protector laying a complaint for possible fraud in water tanker invoices that were paid. Only R381 million of the R777 million spent on water tankers was accounted for on 30 June 2025, the end of the financial year. The rest of the invoices were received after the books were closed. We’re taking this fight to the Public Protector because Tshwane residents deserve honesty, transparency and leadership that protects every cent, not politicians who treat public money like their own.

I thought politics was difficult until I drove a Quantum in Atteridgeville 😭🚐

When I was Mayor, I made tough calls, like freezing salary increases, to cut costs instead of burdening residents with higher taxes. Tshwane’s challenges are real: high bills don’t just hurt households, they chase away jobs and investment too. As for comparisons between Tshwane’s Cleansing Levy and Cape Town: the reality is that Tshwane faces far higher bills and deeper municipal challenges. 📹Watch my video as I unpack these differences.

The EFF must account for evidence at the Madlanga Commission which suggests that their leader “Juju” was involved in tender rigging in Tshwane. They have been very animated about a report of the Public Protector about a defective advertisement for the position of head of emergency service, despite the Public Protector confirming that the position was eventually filled by someone with the required qualifications. They seem less eager to account for far more serious allegations of wrongdoing against their own leaders.

Tshwane’s mayor and her team must drop whatever they’re busy with and tend to the water situation. Visit reservoirs. Check the inflow. Ensure officials give info to councillors. Gauteng’s water crisis won’t be solved overnight, but when taps run dry, especially in the middle of school exams, you need hands-on government.

Investment into the City of Tshwane is key for Economic Growth and Job creation. Fundamental to this is stable electricity supply to ensure our business and industries can function. We met with leaders of industry to learn how to achieve this and their input is clear - have a clear road map and be serious about implementing it! In preparation for governing the City of Tshwane after the 2026 local Government Election, we are undertaking a listening tour to engage stakeholders of different sectors to inform pledges that we will make to the people of Tshwane.

Alaska in Mamelodi went over a week without water - while tankers made money off a simple closed valve. 💧 The ANC-led coalition was quick to send costly tankers, but slow to open the valve. The DA pushed until water was restored - proving again how the tanker mafia thrives on government failure.

JP Smith is in Tshwane to help us rethink urban safety, and at our first stop in Lyttelton he heard directly from residents living under constant pressure from the Sport spark informal settlement. Crime, harassment and sleepless nights are their daily reality. JP’s experience in Cape Town demonstrates that cities can act decisively, strengthen enforcement and restore safety for residents who feel abandoned.

Tshwane’s mayor Nasiphi Moya shut down the Marabastad Retail Market, a site of legitimate business for South African traders for years. Traders operating just outside the building were left alone. Moya didn’t have any facts, and tried to create the impression this was part of enforcing law and order. Material for ActionSA’s paid social media influencers. The fact that the market is open today is because the mayor was on the wrong side of law and order.
