City of Harare admits air can trigger water meter charges The City of Harare and Helcraw Water say prepaid water meters work the same way as ordinary water meters. They say the meters are not faulty. According to the statement, when there is air trapped in water pipes after events like burst pipes, repairs, or when the water supply is restored, that air can pass through water meters and cause them to record water use even though mostly air is flowing. In addition, we found several illegal connections. We’ve disconnected electricity, removed illegal connections and removed water meters from all the bad buildings we inspected today. Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Ayodeji Ariyo Gbeleyi, has disclosed that the Federal Government is accelerating efforts to close Nigeria's electricity metering gap through the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) and a $500 million World Bank-supported Distribution Sector Recovery Programme (DISREP), with a combined target of installing about seven million electricity meters nationwide. Key highlights include: - The World Bank is financing a $500 million intervention to strengthen Nigeria's electricity distribution sector. - $250 million from the intervention has been earmarked specifically for the procurement and deployment of electricity meters. - The DISREP programme targets the installation of 3.22 million electricity meters across the country. - So far, contracts have been awarded for 1.4 million meters under the programme. - About 1.1 million meters have already arrived in Nigeria. - More than 700,000 meters have been successfully installed nationwide. - The installations are being carried out by trained young Nigerians, creating employment opportunities while improving electricity service delivery. - The Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) will complement the World Bank-supported programme to accelerate nationwide metering. - Combined, the PMI and DISREP programmes are expected to deliver about seven million electricity meters, exceeding Nigeria's current estimated 5.6 million metering gap. - The additional meters will also cater for new electricity customers expected to join the national grid in the coming years.

City Power removes 3 tonnes of illegal cables in Kew: City Power, working with JMPD and SAPS, conducted an electricity enforcement operation in Kew, Johannesburg. Teams removed an estimated 3,000kg of illegal aluminium cables, worth about R200,000. Properties at 131 and 133 10th Road were disconnected after illegal connections and unregistered meters were found. City Power says illegal connections, cable theft and vandalism are placing severe pressure on Johannesburg’s electricity network. The operation forms part of a wider intervention following concerns raised in Alexandra, including overloaded networks, illegal connections, meter bypassing, cable theft and vandalism. City Power says it pays about R250-million a month for electricity supplied through the Alexandra network, while only about R29 million is recorded as revenue. An Alexandra Electricity Imbizo will be held on 18 August at 10:00 at the AlexSan Kopano Resource Centre. Residents are urged to report suspicious activity and electricity infrastructure theft.

MorgenHof Lifestyle Golf Estate is serviced by third-party electricity billing agents called Constantia.
