🏟️The City has completed Phase 1 of the R32 million upgrade at Mandela Park Stadium in Khayelitsha, including the resurfacing of the athletics track and more. Phase 2 is under way, with lighting, paving and ablution improvements planned ahead of the upcoming athletics season.

🌊The City has installed seven new waste interceptors following a R2,5m investment, bringing the total to 27. The systems trap litter in rivers and waterways before it reaches the ocean. Residents are urged to dispose of waste responsibly and report vandalism.

🐕 The City hosted its first-ever K9 competition, with 15 teams from the City’s Metro Police, Stellenbosch K9 unit and SANParks demonstrating their skills in obedience, detection and protection work, while strengthening partnerships in public safety.

🚧 Cape Town’s R5,2bn Potsdam wastewater upgrade is 80% complete. The project will more than double treatment capacity from 47 to 100 million litres a day, strengthening sanitation services, protecting waterways and increasing opportunities to reuse treated effluent.

🏖️ Eight Cape Town beaches have earned Blue Flag status for 2026/27, with Chapman’s Peak, Big Bay, Strand and Strandfontein named pilot sites. The recognition reflects standards in water quality, safety, environmental management and public facilities.

☀️ An SA first! The City has launched SA’s first metro-built Helderhoop Solar and Storage Power Plant in Atlantis. The R220m facility features 12 850 solar panels and two utility-scale batteries, with projected savings of at least R400m for residents over 20 years.

🌉 The City has unveiled proposals to transform Cape Town’s unfinished Foreshore highways into a new link bridge, tunnel, promenade and neighbourhood. The project will be delivered in phases, with public participation forming part of the process.

🚧 The first phase of the Foreshore Precinct Project proposes widening the incoming elevated highway and building an iconic new bridge over Buitengracht to connect with Helen Suzman Boulevard, alongside a more pedestrian-friendly precinct with public open spaces.

The City has delivered 815 new taps and 6 505 toilets across more than 100 informal settlements in 2025/26, exceeding its targets. The City invested R46m in basic services, benefiting thousands of households, and plans a further R44m investment in 2026/27.

The City is continuing its partnership with key industry organisations for 2026/27 to drive economic growth, attract investment, grow exports and create jobs. In 2025/26, City-funded projects contributed R18.9 billion in investment and 15,948 direct jobs across sectors.

🚗 Jakes Gerwel Drive is fully reopened. The major rehabilitation between Viking Way and Voortrekker Road is complete, with all lanes now accessible. The work included road pavement rehabilitation, bridge joint, guardrail and signage replacement, and more.

🚨 Five smash-and-grab suspects arrested in Elsies River. An intelligence-led joint operation involving City Law Enforcement, Metro Police and SAPS used CCTV, intelligence and drone surveillance to track and apprehend the suspects.

⚡ Cape Town has concluded its first power purchase agreements, securing 70MW of solar power at rates 19–21% cheaper than current Eskom rates. More agreements are to follow. A major step towards more affordable, sustainable and predictable power.

🛣️Jan van Riebeeck Drive (M12) in Elsies River has been fully rehabilitated! The upgrade included road strengthening, resurfacing and improvements to drainage infrastructure. Thank you for your patience as we continue keeping Cape Town moving.

The City is preparing to repair the Jafta K Masemola bulk sewer in Khayelitsha at an estimated cost of R7,9 million. About 40 informal structures need to be relocated to give repair teams safe access to three collapsed sections of the sewer.
