🚨 #Somalia | Al-Shabab Double IED Attack Kills More Than 10 Somalia Soldiers in Lower Shabelle More than 10 Somalia soldiers were killed and at least 15 others wounded yesterday after Al-Shabab militants targeted a Gorgor military troop carrier travelling with supplies from Mogadishu toward Mubarak. The vehicle was struck by a powerful IED on the road between Awdheegle and Mubarak, reportedly destroying the truck. Some reports put the overall casualties at more than 50, with all 42 soldiers travelling on the truck said to have been either killed or wounded. A second group of Somalia soldiers sent toward the scene as reinforcements was then hit by another explosive attack, causing further casualties. Al-Shabab claimed it killed 20 soldiers and wounded 32 others in the two attacks. Mubarak was captured by Ugandan and Somalia forces in March this year, but the surrounding corridor remains heavily contested, with Al-Shabab stepping up attacks across Lower Shabelle in recent weeks.

#Ethiopia | Ethiopian Federal Forces Brutally Beat Up and Humiliate Senior Somali Regional Officials Several senior officials from Hurso, in Erer district of the Sitti region of Ethiopia’s Somali Region, were rushed to hospitals in Dire Dawa after Ethiopian federal soldiers beat them with sticks, punches and kicks. Among those injured was Diini Mohamed, the mayor responsible for the entire Hurso district, who suffered injuries to his head and both eyes. The district’s health manager, Abdeeq, had both arms broken, while party affairs official Sharmaarke Muse and school administrator Mohamed Osman were also injured. In effect, the highest-ranking civilian officials responsible for governing the entire district were themselves beaten up by federal troops. Hurso is predominantly inhabited by Gurgure Somalis and is home to one of Ethiopia’s largest military bases. The confrontation began after federal soldiers seized large numbers of livestock belonging to local residents. Somali officials went to the military camp to ask why the animals had been taken, but were assaulted instead. The latest incident follows years of the federal military of ethopia occupying farmland, restricting livestock routes, repeatedly impounding animals and charging owners for their release in the district. Another civilian was also beaten and had money taken from him by the military.
