As one of the few instructors still teaching the Classic Golf Swing, I’m fascinated by how this beautiful motion has gradually disappeared during my lifetime. Today, most golfers keep both feet firmly planted on the ground throughout the swing. For me, that makes it much harder to make a full turn, develop a natural rhythm, and generate effortless power. The classic swing allowed the greats to move freely, create speed, and play for decades. This Tuesday, June 30th at 7:00 PM CT, I’ll be hosting a FREE Classic Golf Swing Webinar, where I’ll explain why these timeless fundamentals still work today. It’s a fun, interactive presentation with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. I’ll post a link in the first comment! If you’d like to discover a swing that’s powerful, repeatable, and easier on the body, I’d love to see you there!

Tiger Woods—arguably the greatest iron player of all time—does ZERO excess shallowing in transition. So why is everyone obsessed with forcing this move? 🤔 It’s not the secret! It’s a distraction. Stop wasting your time. Learn the real fundamentals. #TigerWoods #GolfMyth #ClassicGolfSwing #GolfTips

Some surprising footage has surfaced of Tiger Woods rehearsing an over-the-top move in his swing—yes, Tiger! It’s a reminder that even the greatest of all time knows the value of that classic, powerful motion. The truth is, many of the champions of the past—Hogan, Snead, Nelson—used a deep, inside takeaway and a slight over-the-top move to deliver the club with precision and force. It’s a move that stands the test of time. Want to learn how to harness this move in your own swing? You can get my Classic OTT Golf Swing program in the link in my bio and start building the motion the legends used. 💥🏌🏻♂️ #ClassicSwing #OTTswing #TigerWoods #GolfTips

What do you notice about the shape of the elite golf swing over the last 50 years?

The inside takeaway was once a part of every major champion’s swing. When you take the club back low and slow, it naturally works to the inside because you’re not lifting it… yet! Here I’m using Hall of Fame member Nancy Lopez as a prime example. These Classic Swing moves are often criticized by the modern golf instruction world, but I believe they’re natural, powerful, and they work. I’ll be giving a FREE Classic Swing webinar this Monday night, May 25th at 7pm CT. I’d love to share an in-depth look at the mechanics of the game’s greatest champions and why many of these timeless principles still hold up today. There's a link in the first comment! 👍🏻

Bruce Lietzke proved that you don’t have to swing like everyone else to play world-class golf. He led the PGA Tour in total driving an incredible nine times, ranked among the best in Greens in Regulation, and was famously one of the Tour’s least enthusiastic practicers! I believe much of his consistency came from his reliable, over-the-top golf swing. It repeated under pressure, produced exceptional ball striking, and allowed him to trust his motion without spending endless hours on the range. That’s one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from studying the great classic swingers: a repeatable OTT swing will always outperform a complicated one. If you’d like to learn why this motion has worked for players like Bruce Lietzke and how you can incorporate these principles into your own game, join me for my FREE Classic Golf Swing Webinar this Tuesday at 7:00 PM CT. I’ll share a registration link in the first comment!

Good players have a distinct sound when they hit the ball — a solid thump where the ball is struck cleanly just before the club takes a divot. It’s one of the sweetest sounds in golf. To create that sound, you can’t be hanging back. You’ve got to get to your lead side. I like to say, “As you lift, you shift!” If you want to master this move and start compressing the ball like a pro, join me at one of my upcoming golf schools: November 8 – One-Day Masterclass December 6–7 – Weekend Golf School For details or private lessons, email me at [email protected]

With the announcement of Tiger Woods’ 7th back operation, I have to ask — is the modern golf swing setting up an entire generation of golfers for injury? That style with the feet planted, the vertical jump, and steep shoulders puts tremendous strain on the lower back. I know, because years ago I tried to “drop it under” like the modern pros — and it nearly ended my game. That injury led me back to the Classic Golf Swing — the one I was taught as a kid, the one that’s stood the test of time. It’s easier on my back, more natural on the body, and I can still hit the ball long and straight. If you’re struggling with back pain or feel like your swing is fighting your body, it might be time to look into the Classic Swing. It changed everything for me. I’ll be teaching it in person at my upcoming schools: 📍 November 8th – One-Day Masterclass in Dallas 📍 December 6th & 7th – Classic Swing Weekend Golf School in Dallas Enrollment is limited, and the weather will be perfect. Bryson DeChambeau is showing the Zen concept of Shoshin — beginner’s mind. It’s the attitude of openness, eagerness, and freedom from preconceptions when learning something new. Here, he discovers the feeling of a full throw release, which is very similar to what I was taught years ago by Roger Dunn. In golf, the old truths have a way of coming back around!

I believe in lifting the lead heel with the driver just like Nicklaus and Snead did. It frees up a bigger turn and sets the weight shift in motion automatically. These timeless fundamentals still work, and I’m proud to be one of the few teaching the classic swing the way it was passed down through the greats. My December school is happening on the 6th & 7th at Grapevine GC near Dallas, and my long drive training program drops on Black Friday. Big things ahead—let’s keep building!

The secret to a smooth transition? Don’t force it. At the top of my swing, I simply let my arms and the club fall into the slot. Gravity does the work, and that natural drop sets the perfect timing for my release. Too many golfers rush from the top and lose their sequence. Trusting gravity keeps me patient, smooth, and in rhythm—just like the classic swingers of the past. Sometimes the best move you can make is no move at all. Let it fall.

Sam Snead had one of the most classic, powerful golf swings of all time. Look closely and you’ll see things that today’s instruction would call “mistakes”: •He took the club to the inside. •He lifted his lead heel. •He swung over the top. And yet… with that swing, Snead is tied with Tiger Woods for the most PGA Tour victories in history—82 wins! If you want to learn how to harness the timeless power of the classic swing, join me at my next Miracle Swing Golf School on September 20 and 21. 📧 Email me at [email protected] to reserve your spot!

Sergio Garcia has long been admired as one of the premier ball strikers in the game. I recently watched a video where he demonstrated how he uses his right hand through the impact zone—allowing the club to rotate naturally while maintaining extension in the wrist. It wasn’t a flip. It wasn’t a roll. It was controlled rotation with structure. So I gave it a try. I have to admit—I really liked the feel. The strike felt compressed. The club released without manipulation. And the ball came off the face with that heavy, penetrating flight we’re all chasing. Sometimes a small refinement in how the trail hand works through impact can change everything. You might want to experiment with it yourself. I’ll be hosting a webinar on Monday where I’ll share what dramatically improved my game the most—if you’re serious about leveling up, you won’t want to miss it. And if you’d like to work with me in person, I’ll be teaching my February 28th Golf School as well. 📧 Email me for details: [email protected]
