Stop thinking every bit of fitness has to come from running. Off-feet conditioning is massively underrated in GAA. It’s fitness without the impact: bike, rower, pool work, Ski Erg. Perfect for injured lads, load management, or top-ups. Three big wins: keeps players fit in rehab, reduces stress during busy weeks, and builds aerobic fitness without wrecking joints. In todays game, Spike woulda been best pulling/volleying on the ball with his foot rather than going down on it. Once you come up, it’s always an overcarry. Do we still coach to get down on the ball to be met with 2 players & blown for overcarry?

At the start of training & 45 mins before a match, I’ll always start with a RAMP warmup. Some players sit down all day at a desk or drive long distances so starting without the ball is key imo.
