The days of statements and populism are over. If Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has evidence, he must arrest those involved in drug syndicates. We are not a country of lawlessness. South Africans don’t need press briefings; we need arrests. If you’re protecting drug lords or working with them, you are a criminal. And if you are a police commissioner, your job is to act. It’s heartbreaking to learn through allegations made today, that some leaders in our country are either working with drug lords, part of drug syndicates, or protecting drug criminals. As someone who despises drugs, with everything in me, this is deeply painful. Drugs have ravaged our youth, creating unemployed and unemployable young people across South Africa. To hear that certain leaders might be complicit in these syndicates is infuriating and hurtful to the core. Recently, I spoke at the National Health Insurance roadshow, alongside Comrade Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi. I made it clear that the issue of illegal foreigners is a problem for the health system and infrastructure. There is an urgent need to secure our borders in order to protect our health infrastructure and healthcare jobs in this country. #ANCYLatWork
